The Lee County com
missioners adopted the FY
2008/2009 budget Tuesday.
June 24.
Commissioner Dennis
Roland made the motion
to approve the budget but
maintained that the budget
did nothing in providing
needed fire and E.M.S. ser
vices for the people in north
ern Lee County. Mr. Roland
explained that the budget
provided EMS service at the
Palmyra Fire Station.
Commissioner Ed Duffy of
the Palmyra District agreed
with Commissioner Ro
land that the services were
needed in the Smithville
- Chokee District. Commis
sioner Duffy said that the
commission should approve
immediately the construc
tion of the fire station in the
Smithville - Chokee District
Mr. Duffy said SPLOST
funds were available for the
purchase of an ambulance
and fire truck for that area.
He said the commission
should at least put a quick
response team in Smithville
this fiscal year.
The commissioners ap
proved a contract renewing
the agreements with the
Georgia Department of
Corrections for the de
tainee work detail crews
that work with the parks
and recreation staff and the

two story school building
that will house the county’s
planning and development
department.
The commissioners ap
proved a renewal of the
lease agreement to provide
office space for the depart
ment of juvenile justice in
the courthouse. The county
agreed to provide the office
space and utilities for the
juvenile officer to meet with
the juveniles.
The commissioners ap
proved three budget amend
ments during their meeting
Tuesday. The commissioners
approved an amendment to
write off $328,716 in uncol
