Trojan JV Baseball Wins 4 of 5 At Parkview
By Steve Burnfin
Lee County Trojans JV
Summer Ball schedule con
tinued this past weekend as
they played in the Parkview
Summer Shootout in Duluth,
Georgia. The Trojan B team
fell short in the opening
game against rival Marist on
Thursday afternoon 6-5.
Chris Moates pitched
five strong innings in the
opening game and left after
five innings with a 4-1 lead.
Justin Walker hit a two run
home run in his first plate
appearance in this game.
In the fourth inning, after
a hit and two Trojan errors,
Moates pitched out of a bas
es loaded situation only al
lowing one unearned Marist
run. The bull pen would
give up five runs in the sixth
inning to Marist and, in the
seventh, the Trojan offense
threatened, but one more run
is all they could score. This
6-5 loss is the first loss of
the Summer Ball Schedule,
and only the second loss all
year for this former ninth
grade Trojan squad.
Game 2 Thursday night
against Duluth JV had a
better outcome. The Trojans
sent Ryan Horne to the
mound and was able to win
this game 7-0.
The Trojans scored seven
runs on nine hits, one walk
while capitalizing on four
Duluth errors. Horne pitched
into the fourth inning but
after a hit and a walk was
relieved by Chase Burnfin.
Burnfin closed out the fourth
allowing no runs and pitched
a scoreless fifth. Burnfin
would get two outs in the
sixth but, after a hit batter,
he would give way to Chase
Griffin who closed out the
game.
Friday’s game 1 against
Loganville JV (at Loganville
High School) was full of
controversy as the Trojans
had four balks called against
them, two of them allowing
runs to score and a couple
other questionable calls.
After four innings, Zane
Hood had pitched the Tro-

Walls run in
Peach F estival
Two runners from Lee
County participated in the
2008 Georgia Peach Festival
5K (3.1 miles) at Fort Val
ley, GA. on June 21, 2008.
Danny Wall received 4th
place in his age group of 60-
64 years with a time of 32:
16 while Brenda Gail Wall
received 5th place in her age
group of 55-59 years with a

inning with two runners on,
Chris Moates sent the 2-0
pitch over the left field fence
for a three run home run.
The Trojans won this game
10-2 in five innings.
Saturday morning found
the Trojans at Parkview
playing the Parkview Pan
thers JV team. Parkview,
with a relentless offensive
attack, scored in the first
three innings to jump out
to a 5-3 lead. The Trojans
would score two in the
top of the fourth to tie the
score at five. Justin Walker
pitching for the Trojan, did
a good job, and he gave
way to Chase Patrick in the
bottom of the fourth. Patrick
allowed five runs on a walk,
hit batter, and five consecu
tive hits, giving Parkview a
10-5 lead?
But again, this is the team
of NO excuses. The Trojans
went three up, three down
in the top of the fifth. In the
bottom of the fifth, Trojan
Cole Goodwin came in and
shut the Panther attack down
in order. With momentum
shifting, the Trojans would
score six in the sixth inning,
and five more in the seventh
as Goodwin shut the Pan
thers’ offense down.
The Trojans won this one
16-10. Chase Patrick led the
Trojans reaching base in all
five plate appearances. Kolt
Parsons had three doubles
in this game as well. This

jans to a 5-2 lead. Both Lo
ganville runs were a direct
result of a balk call.
In the fifth inning after
another balk call, Hood gave
way to Jarvis Cruce. With
the bases loaded while walk
ing up the mound, Cruce
dropped the ball resulting in
another balk call and anoth
er run. This led to the ejec
tion of Coach Frierson and
after the inning completely
unraveled, the Loganville
team posted eight runs in the
inning taking a 10-5 lead.
Down 10-5, time running
out, this is the Trojan Class
of 2011 where there will be
NO excuses. These young
men stepped up to the chal
lenge in the sixth inning and
scored six runs to take the
lead and win this game 11-
10. When most teams fold
up and go home, the Trojans
showed bulldoggish tenacity
in pulling out a gutzy win.
They were not going to be
beat. Not by Loganville or
their umpires.
Riding that high, the Tro
jans took on the N. Forsyth
Raiders in the nightcap.
Chase Griffin pitched this
game for the Trojans who
jumped out to a 5-0 lead
in the first inning. Grif
fin would scatter four hits
across five innings. The
Trojans committed an error
making the two Raider runs
unearned. The highlight of
this game was in the fifth
was an exciting, well played
game for our Trojans.
The Trojans JV team
winds up the Summer
Ball schedule this week
with Games in Valdosta
Thursday and Friday. Go to

Parkview rematch is on for
Friday.
