What The Bible Teaches
Christ’s Sanctified Holy Church
Gary’s
Musings
By Gary Collier
By Frank Taylor
It is vital for every Chris
tian to know how to study
the Bible. You
should be able
to dig into
God’s Word
yourself to
glean and to
gain all the
riches that the
Bible contains.
I often think
of the words
of Jeremiah
who said, “Thy words were
found, and I did eat them;
and thy word was unto me
the joy and rejoicing of mine
heard' (Jeremiah 15:16). The
Word of God is a tremen
dous resource. Christians
should not be handicapped
in their own ability to study
God’s Word for themselves.
Oftentimes Christians attend
Church and listen to the
sermon from the preacher
which is at best a sermonette
with no meat. They rely
on their Bible knowledge
from their Church and do
not grow in the doctrines of
the Scripture and become
mature believers.
Walter Scott, a British
novelist and poet who wrote
many classic novels among
which is “Ivanhoe,” was a
great Christian. While lying
in bed dying, he said to his
secretary, “Bring me the
book.’’ His secretary looked
at the thousands of books
in his library and said, “Dr.
Scott, which book?’’ He said,
“The book, the Bible—the
only Book for a dying man.’’
And I would have to add
that the Bible is not just the
only Book for a dying man,
but it’s the only Book for a
living man, because it is the
Word of life, as well as the
hope in death.
So we come to the Word
of God with a tremendous
sense of excitement and
anticipation expecting God
to teach and guide us in
the way we should go. We
don’t have to rely on any
other person for discover
ing the truths God will
show you if you are
diligent and faithful in
your study. But before
I share with you how
to study the Bible, I
must tell you about the
authority of the Word of
God. Then you will see
the importance of Bible
study. Also, we must
state from the very
beginning that the Scripture
is the Word of God. It is
not man’s opinion, it is not
human philosophy, it is not
somebody’s ideas, it is not a
pooling of the best thoughts
of the best men—it is the
Word of God. Consequently,
there are several things we
need to realize about the
Word of God. Beginning this
week and for the next few
weeks we will learn some
indisputable truths concern
ing the Word of God that
will encourage us to enter
into a diligent Bible study.
We first learn the Bible
is infallible. What does
that mean? The Bible, in its
entirety, has no mistakes.
Specifically, in its original
autographs it is without
errors. In Psalm 19:7a the
Bible says of itself, “The
law of the LORD is perfect'.
It is flawless because it was
authored by God—and He is
flawless. Therefore, If God
wrote the Bible, and if He is
the ultimate authority, and
if His character is flawless,
then the Bible is flawless and
is the ultimate authority. You
see, the fact God is perfect
demands that the original
autograph, the original
giving of the Word of God,
must also be perfect. So, the
Bible is infallible, and that’s
the first reason to study it; it
is the only book that never
makes a mistake—every
thing it says is the truth.
The Bible is not only
infallible in total, but iner-
rant in its parts. In Prov
erbs 30:5-6 it says, “Every
word of God is pure: he is
a shield unto them that put
their trust in him. Add thou
not unto his words, lest he
reprove thee, and thou be
found a liaf. So every Word
of God is pure and true.
The Bible is complete.
Nothing needs to be added.
Now that may be a surprise
to some people, because
there are those today who
believe we need to add to
the Bible. There exists a
philosophy/theology com
bination known as neo-or-
thodoxy. It tells us that the
Bible was simply a comment
in its day on man’s spiri
tual experiences, and today
man is still having spiritual
Matthew 5:9 “Blessed are
the peacemakers, for they
shall be called sons of God.’
The world is in
need of peace and
peacemakers. This is
quite evident by just
watching the local
news or by reading
the local newspaper.
Historians Will and
Ariel Durant wrote a
book titled The Les
sons of History. One
of the chapters “History and
War” they wrote this amaz
ing statement; “War is one
of the constants of history,
and has not diminished with
civilization and democracy.
In the last 3,421 years of
recorded history, only 268
have seen no war.”
War is a constant reality of
life. So what is the answer?
Is it more peace negotiations
with the “enemy”? This
is not the solution. The
answer is theological in
nature. Peace is impossible
experiences, therefore he
needs another comment.
In other words, they are
claiming the Bible is not
complete. Let’s look at the
end of the last book of the
Bible, the book of Revela
tion: “If any man shall add
unto these things, God shall
add unto him the plagues
that are written in this book:
And if any man shall take
away from the words of the
book of this prophecy, God
shall take away his part out
of the book of life, and out
of the holy city, and from
the things which are writ
ten in this £>oo/f.’(Rev. 22:
18b-19). The Bible ends with
a warning not to take away
anything, and not to add
anything. That’s a testimony
of its completeness.
for human beings without a
transformation of the heart
from a personal relationship
with Jesus Christ.
No one can live
the Golden Rule
by mere human
will power.
In order to be a
peacemaker or to
have peace, one
must first have
peace with God.
This is where it
all starts. Romans 5:1 tells
us, “Therefore, having been
justified by faith, we have
peach with God through
our Lord Jesus Christ.” To
be justified means to be
declared righteous. This
includes pardon from the
guilt and penalty of sin and
it also means that Christ’s
righteousness is put into the
believers account.
When we have peace with
See Words,

“To our bountiful father
above, we will offer a trib
ute of praise.”
Last week my world was
turned upside down by an
e/mail from my mother. My
father had been feeling bad
for months with chest pains,
she wrote. He had finally
talked to her and agreed
to get a checkup the next
day. After a physical and a
stress test on Wednesday,
he flunked a heart cath on
Thursday. One of the arter
ies in your heart is called
the “widow maker” by the
docs. If that blocks up and
you have a heart attack,
you die before you hit the
ground.
Dad’s “widow maker” was
blocked 100%, with major
blockages in other arteries
as well. This man is always
in good shape, eats right
and even has a personal
trainer.
He had 5-way bypass open
heart surgery on Friday
morning and is doing so
good that we’re all amazed
as I write this on Monday
morning.
Why is he still alive?
Only the hand of God kept
him here - of that we’re
all convinced. And for that
we’re thankful and we are
praising God.
I don’t know the demo
graphics of the readership
of this column. I suspect
that there are more women
who read it than men, based
on small bits that I’ve heard
since it started.
Women, ask your
husbands/brothers/fathers
today if they’re having
chest pains during exertion.
These older fellows come
from a macho generation
where “real men” don’t
admit pain, worry, stress or
fears. It’s hard for them to
admit that they’re less than
bullet proof, even when they
know something is wrong.
So it may be up to you
women to pierce through
their shield and ask them
to get checked out by their
doctor if they’re having
problems.
The world is in dire need
of good men. Paul wrote
“For though ye have ten
thousand instructors in
Christ, yet have ye not
many fathers.” We need
men like my father who
live an example of selfless,
Christ-directed service to
others. We need men who
we can look up to and take
inspiration from. We need
men who care for others
as children and don’t treat
them like drill instructors.
The home revolves around
the mother, but it’s the
father who God has given
explicit instructions on how
he should live and act. It’s
the husband who God di
rected to be the head of the
home. It’s the husband who
is charged with loving his
wife as his own flesh.
Men, please take my
suggestion and take care of
your earthly body. If you’re
hurting go find out why. If
you’re unhealthy make a
lifestyle correction that will
help you.
If you knew you would
die in 3 months unless you
made a lifestyle change,
would you?
