times.

The veteran to be honored
this week is John Webb
Heath.
John Webb Heath
John Webb Heath served
in the Linked States Navy.
John Webb Heath entered the
Naval service in July of 1953.
He and classmate, Donald
Parker, joined the Navy on
the buddy system. They went
to boot camp at San Diego.
Heath was from Smithville
and attended Lee County
High School.
John Webb Heath served
two years in the Philippines
and two years in San Diego.
He held the rank of Third
Class.
I don't know how we wound up in a position requir
ing write-off of over $300,000 in garbage fees.
But if we can't collect $18 a month on garbage, will
we do better on a $250 annual EMS Fee? What are
our plans to cut the garbage losses?
Goodness gracious. Can't we correct the "Ligh-
house Harry" mistake on the Tax Assessor's web
page? Makes us look like a bunch of dumb hicks!
Hmmm.
For as long as my memory serves me, not one dime
of Lee County taxpayers' money has been spent in
the Chokee section of Smithville-Chokee District.
In fact, it seems as if our part of the county can
truly be called the "forgotten" few. While folks in
other districts complain about their lack of ser
vices, although improvements to those areas are
clearly visible, we get nothing.
Buster Posey is not only a great ballplayer, he is a
wonderful role model.
Congratulations Miss Ida on your reelection to the
Sumter EMC board.
Lee County needs a decent facility to hold the ani
mals and get them out of the rain and the heat now.
The trash collectors in Lee County must be the
laziest anywhere. My neighbor put four large pieces
of cardboard against his container and they blew
over. The collector used the remote to empty the
container and left the cardboard on the ground,
what a joke.
With the price of gas I can hardly afford to mow
my grass.
Why would a candidate offer an email address for
comments and questions and then not respond to a
question from a legitimate email name and address?
I guess with no response I can figure out the an
swer. Minus two votes is our answer.
Please continue to honor the veterans. I enjoy
reading about them and appreciate what they did
for our country.
Happy birthday, Mr. R.L. "Hoot" Gibson. We are
glad to call you friend!
I've been enjoying the evening showers. I think my
weeds have benefitted also.
To all the canidates that have taken time to come
to by door, "thank you". To the ones that haven't,
there is still time.
Just wondering if County Commissioners take
the time to check their email that is posted on the
Lee County website? I emailed two Commissioners
nearly TWO WEEKS AGO and have yet to receive
a response. Commissioners, check your email fre
quently PLEASE!
Thank you commissioners and board of education
for providing recreational opportunities for the
children.
Thank you Lee County Commissioners for not rais
ing taxes. But what is wrong with the Lee County
School Board, raising our taxes again.
