Special to the Ledger
By Steve Burnfin
The Trojan JV base
ball team continued their
winning ways in the 2008
South Georgia Diamond
Brawl this past Thursday
and Friday in Valdosta. The
Trojans played Jeff Davis
JV in the opener and won
4-1 behind solid pitching
from Justin Walker. Walker
only allowed 2 hits and 1
walk while striking out 6.
The Trojans committed one
error behind him that led to
the 1 Jeff Davis run. Pedro
Cruz led the Trojan offense
batting 2 for 2 with a triple,
single and 2 runs scored.
Chase Patrick went 2 for 3
and 1 run scored.
Thursday afternoon’s
game against South Effing
ham JV found the Trojans
JV with another great pitch
ing performance. Chase
Burnfin pitched a complete
game shutout throwing only
42 pitches in 5 innings and
facing the minimum 15
batters (26 strikes, 16 balls).
Burnfin allowed 1 hit and
one walk, but the Trojan
defense behind him erased
those base runners with
double plays. Burnfin had a
3 pitch inning in the 4th to
retire the side. The Trojan
offense was led by Chase
Griffin who homered and hit
a ground rule double in this
game going 3 for 3 and a
walk. Peyton Wade reached
base all 3 plate appearances
on a hit and 2 S. Effingham
errors scoring 3 runs. Tro
jans won this one 10-0.
Friday the Trojan JV
played Brantley JV in a 4
inning blowout. The Trojans
pounded out 12 hits and
walked 4 times to score
12 runs against Brantley’s
2 hits and 3 walks. Chase
Griffin pitched a complete
game for the Trojans strik
ing out 5 Brantley batters
along the way. Jarvis Cruce,
Chase Patrick and Chase
Griffin reached base in all 3
of their plate appearances,
Ryan Elmore tripled in this
game. Trojans won 12-1.
Friday’s second game
featured a rematch between
the Lee County Trojan JV
and the Parkview Panther
JV. Trojans won against
Parkview 16-10 just 6 days
earlier in Duluth Ga. and
Parkview was looking
for payback. Not so fast.
This Trojan Team of NO
EXCUSES started Chris
Moates on the mound and
Moates delivered 3 strong
innings and the Trojans
were leading 2-1. Finding
trouble in the 4th Moates
was relieved by Cole Good
win as the Panthers claimed
the lead 5-2. After 2 Panther
errors starting the 5th in
ning Trojan Justin Walker
delivered a 2 run double
to get the Trojans within 1
run. Pedro Cruz would later

Trojan 9th grade team has
had a great season over
all, with a 13-1 record in
the school year and a 17-1
record in June. They end
the year with 30 wins and 2
losses. This is truly a special
group of young men that will
continue to provide us with
great baseball for several
more years. Coach Frierson,
Coach Trivette, and Coach
Brock have done a great job.
