Lee County needs a
working Sheriff?
Citizens of Lee County, we have a working sheriff in
Sheriff Harold Breeden. Sheriff Breeden and I worked
together years ago in Albany and then after he became
Sheriff, I went to work for Leesburg Police Depart
ment. While working as the assisting Chief of Police
of Leesburg I had a very close relationship with Sheriff
Breeden. On many occasions, assistance was needed
from Sheriff Breeden and received. There was never a
time that assistance was denied. Sheriff Breeden was re
spectful and encouraged a working relationship between
the Leesburg Police Department and the Lee County
Sheriff’s office. Sheriff Breeden has worked very hard
to get drugs off the streets of Lee County. Just watch the
news and you will see for yourself just how hard he has
worked. Sheriff Breeden has labored for the citizens of
Lee County to keep our people safe since 1989. 1 believe
he will continue to do so if we re-elect him.
Citizens please vote Tuesday, July 15, and help keep
Sheriff Breeden in office so he can continue working for
us.

I am excited about the ninth grade academy. We
are losing our kids by the minute. The school board
is doing their part, now we need parents and the
rest of the community to step up and help out. The
YMCA is moving into our county. Encourage these
kids to go there and stop hanging out. Have you
seen the Winn Dixie parking lot lately?
With the high school teacher constantly throw
ing out phrases like "Throwing babies" it was only a
matter of time before a band student actually tried
it(or in this case filmed it)
It's a shame that some people feel the need to
destroy candidates signs. If you don't like the can
didate, don't vote for him/her but leave the signs
alone. That's the only way some of us get to know
who's running.
It appears that the school board has some of
those tax and spend members. Thank you Dr. Clay
for doing what you have always done - look after
the taxpaying citizens.
Since you wrote off all the unpaid garbage fees
and are going to raise the fees, my brother in law
wants to know who's garbage bill he's paying along
with his.
The trash collectors are not required to pick
up any trash outside our trash bins. Often times
they do it anyway. These men are working hard in
the heat and we should appreciate what they do.
Sounds like the only lazy folks out there are the
ones who don't dispose of their extra junk properly;
large pieces of cardboard should be taken to the
landfill.
Congratulation to the people in the Palmyra Dis
trict for having an ambulance in your district. I am
just wondering what is the response time in North
Lee County?
Well they got us again Lee County taxpayers. Hid
it as a school tax, to play on a fabricated need for
the children. Vote em
all out! Live within your
means, just as us tax
payers have to do.

For 37 years - 28 as Tax Com
missioner, it has been my honor
and privilege to serve the citizens
of Lee County, and would gra
ciously enjoy the opportunity to
continue to serve as YOUR com
missioner.
The 28 years I have been in
volved in the budget process for
my office, I have always keep the
taxpayers in mind and have never
requested anything not needed.
Collecting your taxes through the
years, I have seen extravagant
and wasteful spending. This must
stop and I plan to do everything
possible to see that it does.
Commercial growth is a must for
Lee County, but by attending the
commissioners’ meeting for years
and talking with members of the
Development Authority, I have
found that it takes lots of research
and planning to bring commercial
to the county. I am very willing
to stay involved in the process of
pursuing commercial development.
If elected, I can promise you two
things. I will not waste your tax
dollars and I will treat everyone
equally.

Leaving Children
Unattended In Cars
Can Be Deadly
Special to the Ledger
As temperatures begin
to increase, the Georgia
Department of Human Re
sources (DHR), Division of
Public Health, and the Safe
Kids of Georgia community
partners urge parents not to
leave children unsupervised
in vehicles for any length
of time. It is important to
remember that temperatures
in your vehicle could spike
to 160 degrees Fahrenheit on
a hot and humid day within
a matter of minutes - even
with the windows partly
open.
“There are several risks
associated with leaving
children in unattended
vehicles,’’ said Dr. San
dra Elizabeth Ford, acting
director of the Division of
Public Health. “They can
suffer from heat stroke and
hyperthermia and become
entrapped in the trunk and
other compartments which
can set a vehicle in motion
and lead to car crashes, or
even abduction. Parents
need to know that these
potentially fatal outcomes
can be prevented through
awareness, supervision and
environmental modifications
such as locked doors. We are
working alongside Safe Kids
coalitions across the state
to increase awareness about
child safety.’’
Children left in vehicles
under extreme heat condi
tions are especially vulnera
ble. Heat stroke, a life-threat
ening emergency, can occur
in temperatures as low as 80
degrees Fahrenheit, depend
ing on humidity levels. Body
temperatures higher than 105
degrees Fahrenheit can cause
permanent brain damage or

even death, especially among
children.
According to the Center for
the Study and Prevention of
Injury, Violence and Suicide,
during the period 1995-2005
there were 414 heat-related
deaths of children in the LT.S.
- 16 of them in Georgia. Of
the 16 Georgia child fatal
ity cases, two were children
who climbed in the trunk of
a vehicle; 14 were in the pas
senger compartment.
More than half of unat
tended child deaths occurred
when adults forgot or were
unaware of the child, accord
ing to a 2005 study published
in Injury Prevention. To help
prevent tragedy, the Division
of Public Health urges all
parents and caregivers to be
conscious of the following
safety recommendations;
Supervision is key. Even if
the windows are down, never
leave your child unattended
in a car. Never leave your
car keys where children can
get them. Keep car doors
and trunks locked at all
times, even in the garage or
driveway. Teach children not
to play in or around cars.
Adopt safety-focused
behaviors. Place your purse
or briefcase in the back seat
as a reminder that you have
your child in the car. Be
sure that all occupants leave
the vehicle when you reach
your destination. If a child is
missing, check the car first,
including the trunk. Keep the
rear fold-down seats closed
to prevent kids from getting
into the trunk from inside
the car.
Have a plan that your
child’s teacher will call
you if your child does not
show up for school, or if
your child does not arrive
when expected. If you see a
child alone in a vehicle, get
involved. If they are hot or
seem sick, get them out as
quickly as possible and call
911 or your local emergency
number immediately.
Make your car safer.
Contact your auto dealership
about getting your vehicle
retrofitted with a trunk re
lease mechanism. Make sure
the child resistant locks in
your vehicle function cor
rectly.
These and other recom
mendations for keeping kids
safe in or around vehicles
