THANK YOU REDBONE
DISTRICT VOTERS
I wish to thank the voters of my Redbone
District for their votes and confidence in electing
me as their county commissioner. I am also truly
amazed, humbled, and very thankful to the people
that took the time out of their busy lives to show
their support by Emails, telephone calls, writing
letters, and either waving, honking or actually
stopping on the side of Philema Road and talking
to me in showing their support. Our county is very
fortunate to have such caring individuals and I
pledge to each and every one of you that I will do
by best in not letting you down.
I am looking forward to working with our board
and staff in bringing unity and stability to our
great county and pledge to everyone that I will
work hard in keeping our county a very desirable
place to live. If anyone has any comments, sugges
tions, or questions regarding our county, I may be
reached at willcpa@aol.com or 420-6679. Thank
you again Redbone voters!

As the summer ends
and another school year
begins, we look back at our
vacation fun and summer
jobs. For five cadets from
Lee County High School
NJROTC when they look
back on some of their sum
mer experiences, they will
have many personal and
unique stories to tell.
C/ENS Jara Charleton,
C/ENS Jennifer Rodriguez,
C/ENS Christian Ponte,
C/ENS Harrison Retzel,
and C/ENS Donte’ Smith
spent one week of their
summer at the Kings Bay
Naval Base in Saint Marys,
GA, attending the Navy’s
JROTC Leadership Acad
emy. Leadership Academy
is a week long course of
instruction taught by Naval
Science instructors from all
over the state of Georgia
and the Jacksonville area of
Florida. During the week
of 14 - 20 June, 95 cadets
from across the area were
trained by 23 NJROTC
instructors (all retired Navy
and Marine Corps) and 14
cadets who graduated from
the same training last year
and returned to help this
year.
The goal of the week long
training is to have the ca
dets realize that they have
the ability to work through
pressures and complete
ing started immediately
when the cadets reported
during the middle of a
strong thunderstorm for
the traditional motivation
check known as “Meet and
Greet.”
The cadet’s daily routine
included getting up before
dawn for physical exer
cise, academic classroom
training and testing, drill
practice and execution,
and room and uniform
preparation for inspections.
Yet most importantly they
learn not only how to push
and encourage themselves
but each other. Every cadet
is graded during each and
are divided into platoons
where further competi
tions, such as drill and the
awarding of honor platoon,
which are conducted at the
platoon level.
The week ended in the
bright sunshine of a Satur
day morning for the gradu
ation ceremony. Each cadet
came forward for indi
vidual awards and then the
moment they all worked so
hard for, the awarding of
the “silver cord” that signi
fies the wearer success
fully completed the entire
training. The graduation
ceremony concludes with
the traditional “Pass-In-Re -
the class can march by the
gathered crowd of parents
and friends proudly wear
ing that bright and shinny
silver cord on their right
shoulder.
In addition to the five
new “Cords,” this year
Lee County’s NJROTC
unit also provided 2 of the
returning cadets, know as
cadre, to assist the instruc
tors in the training. These
Lee County cadets are
C/LCDR Justin Griffin
and C/LT Sherzah Tahir.
These new leaders will
now step up to positions
of leadership in the Trojan
Company.

Stephen Caleb Ligget
became the first cadet from
Lee County’s NJROTC
unit to earn a Civilian
Marksmanship Program
(CMP) scholarship. The
CMP ROTC Scholarship
Program annually provides
one-hundred $1,000 college
scholarships to high school
seniors and college under
classmen that excel in rifle
marksmanship, who are en
rolled in JROTC or ROTC
and who have excellent
academic and leadership
records. The CMP Scholar
ship Program is available
to Army, Navy and Marine
Corps JROTC or ROTC
cadets through agreements
that the CMP established
with the LT.S. Army Cadet
Command, the U.S. Naval
Education and Training
Command and the USMC
Training and Education
Command.
Caleb was a member of
the Lee County NJROTC
unit and a 4 year member
of the Varsity Rifle Team.
With Ligget as a member,
the rifle Team has gone
from “just another high
school team” to one of the
top teams in the state of
Georgia. With help, in the
form of monetary grants
from the local chapter of
the Friends of the NRA
for upgraded equipment,
and many long hours of
practice, the Lee county
High School NJROTC
Rifle Team finished 6th in
Navy Area 12 and 13th in
the state of Georgia. Caleb
is one of only 16 Navy
awardees this year.
I would like
to thank you
for your votes
in last week’s
election.
Thank you for
allowing me
to continue to
serve as you
coroner.

We Can Count On
Vote Crosby for State Senate.
South Georgians have counted on Crosby in the past as a Superior Court Judge,
City Commissioner and State Court Judge. As our State Senator, we know we can
count on John Dickey Crosby in the future:
4^. To be an advocate for teachers and law enforcement.
■¥■ To be a careful steward of our natural resources, particularly water.
To represent the concerns of South Georgia farmers and business owners.
4A To listen to people in our district - and stand up for our concerns in Atlanta.
4^- To tackle issues such as tax reform and access to health care.
