Two Leesburg residents recently completed
the 39th annual Atlanta Journal Constitution’s
Peachtree Road Race in Atlanta, Georgia. On
July 4th, Cathy Jones, 48, and her daughter,
Kelsey Jones, 16, lined up amid 55,000
runners along the corner of Lenox Square.
The pair completed the world’s largest 10k
road race (that’s roughly 6.2 miles) with an
unofficial time of 70 minutes. Though the
race was harder than years past and the heat
sweltering, they plan to run again next year
and in years to come!

Special to the Ledger
The Lee County Pee
Wee National All Stars
finished third in the Di
xie Youth Baseball State
Championships held in
Monticello, Georgia on
June 29th through July
4th. The Lee County
National Pee Wee team
was defeated by North
Gwinett County in the
Semi-Final Champion
ship game 12-11, after a
tie which continued the
game into three extra
innings of baseball.
The very dramatic fin
ish came after no runs
were scored in the sixth
inning. Two runs were
scored by each team in
the seventh inning and
the winning run was
scored in the bottom of
the eighth with bases
loaded, full count and
two outs. The team’s
hard work was noticed by
league officials who ex
pressed their admiration
for the team’s relentless pursuit of victory.
