can Party is hosting a Can
didate Forum, Thursday
July 31 at 7:00 p.m. at the
Lee County High School’s
Clay Auditorium.
The event is free and
open to public.
Senate District 13 cani-
dates that have confirmed
are Walley Roberts, Rusty
Simpson, Bob Usry. Also
invited are the canidates
in the Lee County Tax
Commissioner’s run-off
race, Tricia Quinn and
Susan Smith.
Anyone Lee Countian
that is registered to vote,
that did not cast a Demo
cratic Ballot are eligible
to vote in August 5 for the
Tax Commissioner or Sen
ate District 13 race.
National Night Out
On August 5, 2008 from
6 to 8 p.m., the Leesburg
Police Department will be
hosting the 1st Annual Na
tional Night Out. They will
be in the rear parking lot of
the First Baptist Church of
Leesburg at the corner of
Starksville and Main.
Police Officers will be
available to register chil
dren with I.D. kits for the
Missing Person Founda
tion. There will be food
and drinks for the entire
family along with fun
activities. The Lee County
Fire Department and
E.M.S. will also be there
for demonstrations.

Rooks Elected Division Two Chair

Association of Georgia’s
(CBA) Leadership Division
Board of Directors elected
new Division Two officers
at the 30th Annual Leader
ship Division Convention
and Mini-Trade Show. The
new Division Two Chair is
Jason Rooks, Colony Bank,
Leesburg.
CBA’s Leadership Divi
sion was created in 1980 to
educate future bank leaders
on the current “hot topics”
in the industry and prepare
them for further leadership
roles in their institutions.
Jason Rooks has been
with Colony Bank for six
years. Rooks is a native of
Pelham, graduating from
Pelham High School in
1997. He later received his
BBA in Marketing from
Georgia Southern Univer
sity in 2002. Rooks is a
member of Artesian City
Sertoma Club, and Lee
County Chamber Ambas
sador. Rooks serves on the
board of directors for the
Lee County Chamber of
Commerce, Artesian City
Sertoma Club, and United
Way Society Young Leader
Society for Southwest Geor
gia. He is a graduate of the
2008 Leadership Lee Class.
Rooks is married to the
former Amanda Goodson
of Leesburg. Amanda is a
third grade teacher for Lee
County Elementary.

Commissioners Look At Smithville Road
Commissioner Dennis Roland, of the Smithville-Chokee District, and Commissioner Ed Duffy,
of the Palmyra District, traveled Smithville Road last Thursday and observed several areas
that need immediate repair. Commissioner Roland is pictured above measuring a pot hole
that measured 24 inches by 40 inches while Commissioner Duffy observes the condition of
the road.

To Get Flu Immunization
Special to the Ledger
August is National Im
munization Awareness
Month and the Georgia
Department of Human
Resources Division of
Aging Services (DAS) is
encouraging older adults to
get immunized against the
flu. The flu season, which
typically runs from late fall
until March, is responsible
for an average of more than
200,000 hospitalizations
and 36,000 deaths each
year in the United States.
“We are taking the
opportunity during the
celebration of National
Immunization Awareness
Month to remind our older
adult population to consult
their healthcare providers
later this year about their
immunization needs.” said
Maria Greene, director of
DAS
Adults aged 50 years and
older are encouraged to
get flu shots, starting in
October and November.
In addition, adults aged
65 years and older are
encouraged to see their
healthcare provider about
getting a one-time revac
cination against pneu
mococcal disease, if they
received their first dose
prior to age 65.
