The most important
meeting of the year for
parents of LCPS students
will be held on different
nights by grade level. Sec
ond grade orientation will
be held Monday, August
11 at 6:30 p.m.. First grade
orientation will be held
Tuesday, August 12 at 6:30
p.m. Kindergarten orienta
tion will be held Thursday,
August 14 at 6:30 p.m.
Parents will meet with
their child’s teacher in the
classroom. Parents will be
informed about procedures,
schedules, curriculum
plans, report card formats
and discipline guidelines.
Parents will have the op
portunity to ask questions.
Parents, attending the
meetings, are encouraged
to have a baby-sitter for the
night of the orientation.

Honor A Veteran
The American Legion
Post 182 will honor local
veterans, who have served
America during war and/or
peace times.
Lee Countians are urged
to submit names of veterans
(alive or deceased) to be
honored.

hour period. He held the
rank of Senior Airman as an

Base, Spain and later the
436 Aerial Port Squadron
in Dover Air Force Base,
Delaware he received three
personal decorations for
outstanding achievement in
support of military opera
tions involving hostile ac
tion by an opposing foreign
force. While assigned to
units of the Twenty-first Air
Force, he provided support
to the returning troops of
the largest night airdrop
since World War II dur
ing Operation Just Cause
as well as peaceful hu
manitarian relief missions
to the Persian Gulf and
Somalia. He earned three
Armed Forces Expedition
ary Service Medals during
Operation Desert Shield,
Desert Storm and Southern
Watch for extended tours
in Southwest Asia where
he personally assisted the
largest airlift in history
with the deployment of over
250,000 troops and armored
vehicles by heavy airlift
alone to forward locations
in Iraq. In 1995 at Tazar
Air Base, Hungary he also
earned the North Atlantic
Treaty Organization Medal
and Armed Forces Service
Medal for his support of the
1st Armored Division and
the 1st Infantry Division
in the former Republic of
Yugoslavia as part of the
NATO led stabilization
force during operation Joint
Endeavor. This operation
was the largest military
mission for NATO and
marked the first commit
ment of forces in a wartime
environment in NATO’s
history. He also received the
National Defense Service
Medal for honorable service
during the Gulf War.

of their daughter, Miss
Jennifer Marie Harrell of
Atlanta, to Mr. Fredrick
Hilton Harper of Carters-
ville, son of Ms. Emily
Ferguson Burgess of Cart-
ersville and Mr. and Mrs.
Fredrick Milton Harper of
Jesup.
The bride-elect is the
granddaughter of the late
Mr. and Mrs. Benjamin
Harlon Brown and the late
Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Harrell
Junior, all of Albany.
Miss Harrell received
her Bachelors degree in
Finance from Georgia
Southern University in
2003. Miss Harrell is
currently employed as the
Business Solutions Officer
for Unity National Bank in
Cartersville.
The future bridegroom
is the grandson of Mr. and
Mrs. Thomas B. Barker
and the late Mr. James A.
Ferguson, a of Perry and
Mrs. Lucille Tyson Harper
and the late Dr. Fred Mil-
ton Harper of Jesup.
Mr. Harper was a gradu
ate of Cartersville High
School in 1997, After
high school he attended
the University of Georgia,
with a major in Economics.
Mr. Harper also received

ness Administration from
Piedmont College in 2002.
Mr. Harper is currently
employed as Operations
Manager for Applied
Thermoplastic Resources
in Cartersville.
The wedding is planned
for December 13, 2008 at
6:00, p.m. at First United
Methodist Church in
Albany,

Certification
Requirements

Meghan Conley recently
completed the Geor
gia Teacher Alternative
Preparation Program and
received her Clear and
Renewable Certificate in
English, Grades 6-12 from
the State of Georgia.
Miss Conley completed
her first year of teaching at
Washington County High
School where she taught
eleventh grade English.
She will teach ninth grade
English at the new Lee
County High School Ninth
Grade Campus.
Meghan received her
Bachelor of Arts Degree in
English from the University
of Georgia in May 2007.
She is the daughter of
Meghan Conley
Ben and Kelly Conley of
Leesburg, Georgia.
