More than a Mistake
By Pastor Jamie Baggett
Leesburg Church of God
You are more than just
a mistake to God. You are
here on this earth for rea
son and it is not for failure,
you are a WINNER! You
encounter temptation every
day whether it be at a job,
home, school, sitting be
hind that computer screen
when no one is watching
and you’re looking at stuff
you have no business look
ing at, you’re friends, your
family, and church family.
Each person has to deal
with their own temptations.
The most dangerous thing
you deal with is a little
truth entangled amongst a
lie. Temptations come in
and put blinders on people
so they cannot see the
complete truth. You can
justify anything going on
if you add a little truth to
the situation. The truth will
find you out and expose
you. Satan comes along
and plays mind games with
you and tells you that it
will not hurt you real bad
and you just listen to it
without ever rebuking or
speaking the truth to the
devil. When a temptation
blooms, it brings death and
failure to you. When you
are not living right, the last
place you want to be is in
the presence of God. God
put something in every hu
man being to trust in Him.
God did not make any
junk, sin did it to you. God
said if you want to have
the time of your life, have
an encounter with Jesus
Christ.
My prayer for you this
week is that: “You leave
the junk behind, those
friends that hold you back,
and starting today is a
new day in your life. From
this day forward, you will
speak only the truth, be
around people that encour
age and spend time with
God daily by studying,
praying, and telling every
one the good news of Jesus
Christ.”
Friends,
from page 4B
one person loses weight,
other people around that
person lose weight, too.
This domino effect can
be used to one’s advan
tage by involving friends
and family in weight
management:
* Get a gym buddy or
walking partner and use
the time to connect as
well as exercise. There’s
nothing better than laugh
ing while on the tread
mill.
* Cook family meals
instead of calorie-heavy
ones for the family and
a “diet” version for you.
You’re less likely to feel
deprived and your family
will benefit as well.
* Be willing to have
open, non-judgmental
conversations about your
struggles and accomplish
ments in losing weight.
Don’t be afraid to tell
friends and family mem
bers -- in a gentle manner
-- what helps and what
doesn’t.
* If you’re having
trouble finding a sup
port team, make new
friends who are facing the
same issues. Groups like
Overeaters Anonymous
and WeightWatchers can
provide the emotional
support and camarade
rie you need to achieve
your weight-loss goals
and maintain a healthy
lifestyle.
If you’re looking to sup
port a loved one in his or
her weight-loss program,
try to avoid military-
style “pep” talks or being
critical in any way. While
such strategies may lead
to short-term action, they
also can lead to long-term
esteem problems.
Accepting your loved
ones as they are, while
cheering their efforts to
engage in healthy activi
ties, is the biggest gift you
can give them.

Musings
By Gary Collier
I preached a funeral of
an 87 year old woman this
past weekend. At the start
I read the statistics about
her, as is customary - her
birth date, her date of
death, how many relatives
she left behind, etc. We’ve
all heard this read from the
pulpit a bunch of times -
the statistics.
It occurred to me, though,
that the statistics, although
telling in their own way,
don’t really tell the story!
For example, if a cop stops
you for speeding, the
statistics might show that
you were driving 70 mph in
a 55 zone. But what is the
story behind it? Perhaps
you were taking some
one sick to the hospital...
perhaps you were late for a
business meeting... or per
haps you were just a lead
footed driver and didn’t
think you’d get caught.
The statistics are the same
for every example, but the
story is different.
Every one of us has a
different story. We all have
defining moments in our
lives that occur, change us
and make us who we are.
What is your story? Are
the defining moments in
your life ones that you
appreciate or ones that per
haps you keep inside and
hide from others? Many
of those moments aren’t
events that we volunteer for
- they just happen. That’s
called “life.” Other defin
ing moments are byprod
ucts of decisions that we
made, whether good or bad.
The wonderful, positive,
amazing thing is that God
won’t judge us for all of the
crooks and turns and peaks
and valleys in our life jour
ney. He only judges us for
where we end up. “In the
place where the treefall-
eth, there it shall be.” (Ecc.
11:3) Why is that exciting,
you ask? Because our past
doesn’t have to determine
our future!
An old baseball figure
once said “There ain’t no
future in livin’ in the past.”
How many people do you
know - you may be one of
them - dwell on the past
so much that they forget
to plan their future? They
focus on what went wrong,
who done them wrong,
how they got cheated, who
hurt them - oh, you get
the idea! - and because of
their past their future is
compromised as well.
“Let us lay aside every
weight and the sin that
doth so easily beset us,
and let us run with pa
tience the race that is set
BEFORE us.” (Heb. 12:1)
What’s left of your “race”
is ahead of you, not behind
you. You’ve never seen a
runner win a race by look
ing back over his shoulder.
No way.
So forgive the wrongs.
Apologize for what you’ve
messed up. Get right with
God. Mend your relation
ships. Learn how to give to
others. And most of all, be
quick to say “I love you” to
your circle around you.
Are you planning ahead
or looking back?
