Setting the Standard
of Excellence
Concussion is a serious
injury in contact sports
(ARA) - When your son
ends up on the bottom of
the pile chasing down a
fumbled football, or your
daughter and her teammate
jointly perform sideways
dives to keep the volleyball
from hitting the floor, you
probably catch your breath,
hoping no one gets hurt.
And usually, the players
involved pick themselves
up off the ground, brush
the dust off their hands,
and the game continues.
Take it from a pro: It’s
possible to be active and
stay healthy with diabetes
(ARA) - It’s true for
everyone - regular exercise
is one of the keys to good
health. It makes you feel
energized, eases stress,
promotes weight loss and
offers a slew of other
benefits. For professional
athletes, intense physical
activity is a way of life.
However, to reap the many
rewards their active careers
offer, they must contend
with a constantly changing,
busy schedule, non-stop
travel and the pressure of
competition.
These challenges are
amplified for athletes with
diabetes because despite
the amount of activity
and unpredictability their
lives may include, taking a
break from regular insulin
delivery and counting car
bohydrates at every meal
isn’t possible. The conse

But concussions, when
sudden trauma causes
damages to the brain, are a
common injury to the head
in contact sports, and an
estimated 3 million sports-
related concussions happen
every year in the United
States, according to the
Centers for Disease Control
and Prevention. And, when
it comes to the leading
causes of traumatic brain
injury for young people,
ages 15 to 24 years, contact
