The Lee County Chamber of Commerce announced its annual award winners: Man of the Year - Fred Finney, Woman of the Year - Ann E.
Nix, Partner in Education - Dr. Jeannie Johnson, Partner in Agriculture - T & T Farms, Ambassador of the Year - Robin Chester, Business of
the Year - Chem Nut, Inc., Non-Profit of the Year - Megan’s House, and Lifetime Achievement Award - Jack Miller.
Chamber Hosts Dinner, Names Winners

Thursday at the Hasan
Temple as the Lee County
Special to the Ledger
Cristi Griffin, in her
ninth year of teaching, was
chosen by her colleagues at
Lee County Ninth Grade
Campus as their Teacher
of the Year for the 2010-
2011 academic year. Mrs.
Griffin, a 1997 honor
Chamber of Commerce
hosted its twenty-second
annual banquet and awards
ceremony. Special enter
tainment was provided by
graduate of Lee County
High School, is a graduate
of Georgia Southwestern
State University where she
obtained her Bachelors
of Science in Health and
Physical Education while
on a fast-pitch softball
scholarship. She complet-

Chamber presented their
2010 Annual Report and
distributed awards to the

ist degrees in curriculum
and instruction and teacher
leadership from Georgia
Southwestern State Uni
versity.
Mrs. Griffin began her
work in education in 2002
at Houston County High
School. While
teaching at Houston
High School, Mrs.
Griffin served as
department head
and coordinated the
Special Olympics.
She was the head
coach of the girls’
varsity softball
team for 4 years
and was recognized
as the 2007 Region
1-AAAAA Coach
of the Year. Mrs.
Griffin also served
as the head coach
of the girls’ varsity
following recipients:

golf team and the assistant
basketball coach to the
girls’ basketball team.
Returning to Lee County
in 2007, Mrs. Griffin was
hired to teach Physical
Education and Health at
Lee County High School.
When the decision to open
a Ninth Grade Campus
was made, Mrs. Griffin
volunteered to make the
move from Lee County
High School to the Ninth
Grade Campus so she
would have an opportunity
to work with and teach the
ninth graders. Knowing
how difficult the transition
from middle school to high
school can be for most
young people, Mrs. Griffin
wanted to be a part of the
teaching team that helps
to make the ninth graders
high school career more
successful.

At the Ninth Grade Cam
pus, Mrs. Griffin teaches
health, body sculpting, and
team sports. She not only
serves on the leadership
team but also serves as de
partment head, FCA spon
sor, and girl’s varsity golf
coach. Mrs. Griffin also
started an after-school fit
ness class this year for the
teachers at the Ninth Grade
Campus.
Mrs. Griffin is married to
Chad Griffin, also a former
Lee County High School
graduate. They have been
married for 7 years. Mrs.
Griffin is an active member
of Breakaway Community
Church where she works
with the youth of the
church. Away from school,
Mrs. Griffin enjoys spend
ing time with family and
friends and watching and
participating in sports.

Dedication Of Robert B. Lee Drive
The Lee County Commissioners held a dedication and ribbon cutting Friday, November 12
for Robert B. Lee Drive. The re-designed road has improved the traffic flow before and after
school in Leesburg. The road improvement cost 1.8 million dollars with one million coming
from SPLOST funds and the balance from state funds.
