“Bracelets and rings two cents each” was
the shout heard on the first grade hall at
Lee County Primary School recently as
Mrs. Hammond’s and Mrs. White’s classes
were able to put into practice what they had
learned about the economy, producers, and
consumers. Mrs. Hammond’s class set up
“The Hammond Mall” with a jewelry store,
candy shop, toy store, food court, and a school
supply store and acted as producers. Mrs.
White’s class “earned money” all week and
acted as consumers. The students acquired
hands on, active knowledge of how money is
earned and used and also what happens when
all of your money is spent. These lessons were
a part of the Georgia Performance Standard
for first graders which states “The student
will describe how people are both producers
and consumers”.
