Smithville Council
Approves Budget
The Smithville City
Council approved their
operating budget for 2015
during their meeting Janu
ary 15.
The City of Smithville
anticipates receiving
revenue in the amount of
$454,895.00. The major
sources of income will
come from property taxes
and local option sales tax.
Total property taxes
include real property tax,
public utility, motor vehicle,
mobile home and franchise
tax. The City of Smithville
anticipates receiving
$168,775.00 in property
taxes.
The City of Smithville
budgeted Local Option
Sales Tax at $192,000.00.
This was the amount col
lected in 2014.
The Smithville City
Council anticipates spend
ing $424,895.00 to operate
the city during 2015. If the
council can keep expenses
at that level, the city will
end the year with $30,000
left over for the fiscal year.
The major concern
expressed at the meet
ing was not being able
to reestablish the police
department. Mayor Jerry
Myrick pointed out that
with the reduction in Local
Option Sales Tax funds, the
council could not employ
one officer. Positive com
ments were awarded to
Sheriff Reggie Rachals and
the sheriff’s department for
their immediate responses
to the need of Smithville’s
citizens.
