Sgt. Jeffrey Fordham worked a theft by taking case January 24 that oc curred in the 100 block of Callaway Street. The victim reported that someone stole two towing chains from the back of his truck. Ashley L. Lane, 21, of Lee County, was arrested by Lt. Gregory Barrett January 23 on an outstand ing warrant for probation violation. Beamon, 30, of Lee County, was charged with disorderly conduct January 26 by Major David E. Bullington. The charge was made at a residence in the 200 block of Firetower Road after officers were called to the residence. A 16 year old juvenile was charged with simple battery January 23 by SFC. Jason Anthony. The charg es were made following a light at the high school. Lt. David Turner was dis patched to an apartment in the 100 block of Stonegate Circle in reference to two sisters fighting. After talk ing to the two sisters and witnesses, charges were not filed. Capt. Chris Prokesh worked a criminal trespass case January 23 in the 100 block of Magnolia Ave. The victim reported that someone had cut the win dow screens. charged a 17 year old juvenile with disorderly or indecent conduct January 21 at the high school. The charges were made after the juvenile used profanity at two school administra tors and refused to obey their instructions. A 16 year old female high school student was charged with possession of marijuana less an ounce January 20 by SFC Jason Anthony. The charges were made following a tip from a citizen that observed two females smoking marijuana while driving to school that morning. A 17 year old male student was charged with criminal trespass at the high school by SFC Jason Anthony January 20. The charges were made after a cell phone was removed from a closed classroom. The juvenile did not have permission to be that area of the building. Several students are participating in an essay contest entitled “If I were the Mayor I would...,” and Mayor Quinn provided some insight into local government as part of their research. This program will be held at Georgia South western State University in Americus, Georgia on Saturday, April 4, 2015 at 1:00 p.m. The life and legacy of the fourteen (14) black female adolescents held hostage in the Leesburg Stockade will be commemorated. Those living are Dr. Shirley Green-Reese, Willie Mae Smith-Davis, Carol Barner- Seay, Melinda Jones- Williams, Verna Hollis, Billie Jo Thornton-Alien, Diane Dorsey-Bowens, Lula Westbrooks-Griffin, and Laura Ruff-Saunders. Those deceased are Pearl Brown, Mattie Crittenden, Sandra Russell-Mansfield, Annie Lou Ragans-Laster, and Gloria Westbrooks. These girls, ages 11-15, played an instrumental role in shaping the Civil Rights Movement in Americus, Dawson, and Leesburg, Georgia during the 1960s. Daffodil Garden Club Holds Meeting Specicd to the Ledger Daffodil Garden Club met Tuesday, January 20 at the Federated Garden Center in Albany. Marid eane Maxwell presented an interesting program on “Terrariums and Dish Gardens’’ Mrs. Maxwell displayed several beautiful designs from her own col lection of succulent plants and gave tips on planting. The members designed and planted their own creations. Officers for the term 2015-2017 were elected as follows: Jil Powell, Presi dent; Sally Loska, First Vice President; Claudia Copeland, Second Vice President; Pat Brinson, Re cording Secretary; Joanne Opperman, Corresponding Secretary; and Paula Long, Treasurer. Mrs. Nation presented out going Presi dent, Kathy Hicks, with two beautiful orchids in appreciation for serving the Club for her term. Officers will be installed by Dale Aycock at the February 17 meeting and they will take office March 1. Several projects were discussed at the business meeting including Garden Therapy, The Yard of the Month, the Club’s Garden at Chehaw Wildlife Animal Park and the Wildflower Planting Project in association with Chehaw.
