Exchange Club of Albany Strengthens
America By Celebrating History
Celebrating the proud
heritage that all Ameri
cans share, the Exchange
Club of Albany dedi
cated a Freedom Shrine
at Lee County Middle
School East last Wednes
day
Club president, Kay
Griffin, presented the
dedication ceremony
along with school and
elected officials.
The Freedom Shrine,
sponsored by the Na
tional Exchange Club,
is a collection of photo
graphic reproductions of
original documents from
American history. The
display includes the Bill
of Rights, the Mayflower
Compact, the Declaration
of Independence and the
U.S. Constitution.
The Freedom Shrine
program is designed to
remind Americans that
the freedom and great
ness enjoyed today were
not purchased easily and
that these gifts must be
cherished and protected.
More than 12,000 Free
dom Shrines have been
dedicated in schools,
military installations and
government buildings
since the program began
in 1949.

working to make our
communities better
places to live.

of the Leesburg Police
Department reports that
officers worked several
cases during the past
week.
Sgt. Jeffrey L. Fordham
worked a making harass
ing telephone calls case
October 23. The com
plainant reported that he
had been receiving calls
and texts repeatedly from
an identified number.
Sgt. Jeffrey L. Fordham
worked a theft by taking
case October 22. The
victim, who resides in
the 100 block of Magno
lia Court, reported that
two bicycles were stolen
from the property.
Lt. J. Vick worked
a theft by taking case
October 22. The victim,
who resides across the
street in the 100 block
of Magnolia Court where
two bikes were stolen,
reported the theft of a
bicycle at approximately
the same time that the
other bikes were taken.
Ptl. Andrew P. Roufs
worked a harassment
matter October 19. The
victim reported that her
ex-husband has contacted
her seeking to see their
child of which she has
full custody. The mother
was not sure as to what
extent her ex-husband
would go to in the mat
ter.
Donny Ray Maler,
39, of Leesburg, was
charged October 17 with
driving while license
suspended or revoked,
failure to obey traffic
control device and giving
false identity to a law
enforcement officer by
Lt. J. Vick. While at the
intersection of Walnut
Ave. and Robert B. Lee,
Lt. Vick observed Maler
approaching the inter
section at a high rate of
speed and proceeded
through the red light at
the intersection. When
Lt. Vick stopped Maler,
the officer was given a
false name and birthdate.
Upon obtaining the cor
rect information, he had
a suspended license for
child support.
Ptl. Phillip Barnes
worked a forgery in the
second degree (check)
case October 17. A lo
cal church had three
checks in the amounts
of $519.19, $2048.40
and $692.25 that were
mailed were stolen. The
names that the checks
were made out too
were “washed” and was
changed. The church
was stopping payments
on the other checks
mailed that same day.
Joe Luis Estrada Jr.,
17, of Lee County, was
charged with driving
on the wrong side of
roadway, driving with
license on person to be
exhibited on request,
driving in restriction of
Class D restrictions, pos
session of marijuana less
than one ounce, original
container required and
possession/ use of drug
related object October
15 by Sgt. Frank Hern
don. The charges were
made after Captain
Barrett stopped Estrada
for making an illegal left
turn and driving on the
wrong side of the road.
Capt. Chris J. Prokesh
worked a theft or mislaid
property case October
15. A customer left a five
dollar bill on the counter
of a convenience store
while she went outside
and the next customer in
line picked up the money
and used it for her pur
chase.
Capt. Chris J. Prokesh
worked a theft by taking
incident at a residence in
the 100 block of Turnkey
Circle. The complainant
stated that two grills and
a shelf were removed
from her residence with
out her permission.
Capt. Chris J. Prokesh
worked a domestic
dispute case in the 100
block of Callaway Street
October 14. After talk
ing with both parties,
Capt. Prokesh and Major
D. Bullington stood by
until the male left the
scene.

worked a civil matter
October 13 at a resi
dence in the 200 block
of Fire tower Road. The
incident involved the
custody of a child of a
couple that are in the
process of divorcing.
