Hussong to compete in the
USA National Miss pageant

Amelia Col
leen Hussong is
the daughter of
Vaughn and Ma-
chelle Hussong.
Amelia attends
second grade in
Leesburg. She
was the August
model student in
her classroom and
has been a model
student in previ
ous school years.
Amelia is also an
accelerated reader
and enjoys read
ing chapter books.
She says that when she
grows up she wants to
be Miss America and
continue modeling and
acting. However her big
gest goal is to become a
famous scientist. Amelia
enjoys modeling, com
peting in pageants, gym
nastics, acting, reading,
going on fun trips with
her family and serving
others. She loves fund
raising for causes such
as Children’s Miracle
Network, Relay for Life,
& Toys for Tots to name
a few. Amelia is currently
collecting winter items
for the homeless and will
donate them to Street
wise ministries.
Amelia is the current
2016 Little Miss Historic
Southern Plains Queen,
2016 Little Miss Planta
tion Queen, and the 2016
Albany’s Talented Little
Miss Queen. Amelia
recently competed in the
Miss Georgia Elementary
pageant in McDonough,
GA where she
was crowned
the 2016 Miss
Georgia El
ementary
Second Grade
Queen. Amelia
has had the
opportunity to
model for New
York Fashion
Week in New
York City and
also model for
fashion shows
in Atlanta GA
and Orlando.
Amelia has
been featured in
five child model
magazines internation
ally and within the
US. She will be in this
month’s issue of Harper’s
Bazaar Magazine.
Amelia is heading back
to McDonough, GA,
to compete in the USA
National Miss pageant
where she will be rep
resenting her hometown
of Leesburg as the Miss
Leesburg Princess. Her
family and friends want
to wish her “Good Luck”
in her upcoming pageant.

Local Mediacom Employee
Earns Award and Recognition

Local Mediacom
employee Rex Wilson
earned a top customer
service award and recog
nition by the company’s
founder and CEO during
an awards ceremony
held earlier this month
at Mediacom’s Regional
Operations Center in
Valdosta.
Wilson, a Leesburg
resident, was awarded
the system ‘Area Opera
tions Employee of the
Year’ for his work as a
broadband specialist.
He has been a long-time
employee with Media
com and its predecessor
companies for 35 years.
Mediacom employs
4,600 people company
wide. The company’s
owner and senior man
agement team personally
present annual awards
to employees who earn
the highest performance
rankings and dem
onstrate outstanding
service.

organized by the chorus

on Wednesday, November

All veterans who have
served in any of the
branches of the military
and their families are
invited to attend.
The program will be
held in the gym begin
ning at 9:00 am, followed
by a reception in the
media center.

will meet
Tuesday,
November 8 at
6:00 p.m. The
meeting will

respect for America, its
symbols, its patriotic
music, and most of all,
our honored veterans.
The guest speaker will
be retired Colonel Pete
Sharber.
In keeping with the
spirit of remembering
our military families
during the upcoming
holidays, they will be
asking for donations for
care packages. They are
accepting greeting cards,
individual packages of
beef jerky, granola or
protein bars, nuts, dried
fruit, hard candy, flavor
packets for water, and
single hot chocolate
packages.
Special to the Ledger
Honoring veterans and
providing family fun
will be the focus for a
community event on
Saturday, November 12,
on the campus of Lee
County High School.
The “Stars ‘N Stripes”
Festival will include
games, rides, vendors,
and music by the Lee
County Middle School
and High School Bands,
along with a special
performance by partici
pants in the “Spirit and
Sparkle” color guard and
danceline camp. The
event is free, and orga
nizers hope that fami
lies will come out and

collected and assembled
into individual care pack
ages for the soldiers who
have family connected to
the Lee County Schools
and are actively serving
overseas during the holi
days. In addition, there
will be cards and letters
sent to the veterans who
are in the VA Hospital in
Dublin, Georgia.
The deadline for col
lecting these items will
be November 29, 2016.

a.m., with performances
by the LCMS East Band
and the LCMS West
Band starting at noon.
The LCHS “Seventh
Hour” Jazz Band rounds
out the afternoon perfor
mances. For the eve
ning, bring a lawn chair
and enjoy the LCHS
Marching Trojan Band
and the LCHS Wind En
semble as they present a
fun and patriotic pro
gram the whole family
will enjoy.

Mr. Gary Unger was
named Twin Oaks El
ementary School Teacher
of the Year. Mr. Unger is
not only a teacher he is
a leader and role model.
He works diligently to
give back to the commu
nity in numerous ways.
Gary has taught students
in all grade levels in
his 22 years integrating
music into students lives.
Gary was selected as Lee
County Middle School
Teacher of the Year
in 1993, Lee County
Teacher of the Year in
1993, and Twin Oaks
Elementary TOTY in
2008 and again this year.
He believes that each
day of teaching becomes
a professional learning
experience. Succeeding,
failing, improving, and
dreaming makes us bet
ter teachers.
Gary currently serves
on the Theater Albany’s
Board of Directors
as treasurer and as a
member of the finance
committee. It has been
an honor to watch him
as Master of Ceremony
for the yearly Link-up
concert where area
students play recorders
and sing with the Albany
Symphony orchestra.
Mr. Unger is also very
involved with his church
community as well as
our school community.
He is the musical direc
tor of our yearly play.
Mr. Unger also leads
a performance music
group of 5th grade stu
dents twice weekly. This
group also known as
PMG performs multiple
times during the year.
Besides his daily du
ties Gary also serves on
numerous committees
including Positive Be
havior Interventions and
Supports in which he has
been Chair for numerous
years. Mr. Unger is one
that believes behavior
can be shaped through
modeling and positive re
direction. He communi
cates his expectations to
his students and can grab
the attention of almost
800 students with the
simple clap and rhythm
of his hands. Mr. Unger
is a true gift to our Twin
Oaks Elementary faculty.
