Owners are Shawona Walker-Kirk and Rebecca Mays. Hours of operation are Monday - Friday 8 am to 7 pm and Saturday 9 am to 2 pm. They advocate for personal health and wellness by engaging their community continuously. They are easily approachable and understanding, they look at the whole person and not individual conditions or disease states. No one is looked upon as a prescription or a metric, but rather as a valued member of their “pharmily”. Proposed Speed Limit Changes To Receive Further Review During their meet ing July 13th, the Lee County commissioners discussed proposed speed limit changes on certain roads. The coun ty received a letter from the Georgia Depart ment of Transportation stating that DOT is in the process of updating the existing speed limits on routes in the coun ty to bring them into compliance with present regulations. It was pointed out that the commissioners have been contacted by individuals concerned about the proposed speed limit changes for certain roads. Commissioner George Walls said that people are concerned about speeders in the subdivisions and that speed limits should be lowered not raised. Chairman Mathis said that it is not the intent of the commissioners to increase any speed limit. Each commissioner will compare the cur rent speed limit to the proposed speed limit of the roads in their district that are on the DOT’s list. The commissioners will discuss the proposed changes before approv ing the ordinance. Page Tharp Governmental Building for public safety. Staff from Administration, the Sheriffs Office, fire &EMS, and the E-911 Center met with per sonnel from Motorola Solutions on Thursday, July 8, 2021 to discuss potential options of radios for public safety. The sale price, including discounts from Motorola for an entire radio up grade was $942,373.25. The total equipment upgrade included 69 portable radios for the sheriff’s office, 40 for fire & EMS service, two for administration, five for E911, five for public works, and five for code enforcement. Motorola Solutions was offering a two-year term of 0% financing with payments in ar rears. The first payment would be due at the end of the first year on Au gust 15, 2022. The final payment of $471,186.63 would be due August 15, 2023. Following an in-depth discussion of the pro posal including the age of the proposed radios, the representatives from Motorola Solutions were asked to attend the next meeting with additional information concerning the questions raised by the commissioners. The commissioners approved a motion to pay all full-time em ployees $1000 and each part-time employee $500. The funds will come from funds that the county received from the federal American Rescue Plan. No elected official will receive the payment. The commissioners awarded the bid for the T. Page Tharp Govern mental Building mason ry repair and restoration project to Midwest Maintenance Inc., the only responsive bidder, for $575,608.00. Mid west Maintenance Inc. is the same company that did the restoration on the courthouse. Vice Chairman John Wheaton complimented the work that was done on the courthouse. All work complet ed will meet county standards, under the direction of Bill Walter, Masonry Restoration Technologies & Ser vices, LLC. Lee County’s Sheriff Office will receive five new vehicles following approval by the county commissioners during their meeting last week. The purchase of the five vehicles will be made using SPLOST funds. The county commis sion approve leasing 105 Knollwood Drive to ad jacent land owner Scott Reid. The property was acquired by the Coun ty through the Flood Mitigation Assistance Program. Lee County has partic ipated in the Flood Mit igation Program follow ing the flooding events of the 1990s, acquiring 90 properties which are maintained as open space. Citizens who own adjoining properties have the opportunity to lease those lots for $1.00 per five year agreement, which is automatically renewed annually. If an eligible lot is leased, the lessee is responsible for the maintenance and insurance of the lot. The county com missioners approved purchasing eight NCIC/ GCIC MDIS licenses for Sheriff’s Office vehicles. Licenses are required for deputies to run GCIC through their MDIS (Mobile Data Information System) on their computers in their vehicles. It was point ed out that by having these licenses and the ability to access the system in patrol vehicles will allow deputies to immediately obtain vital information while on the scene of a traffic stop or call without having to call into dispatch to receive the information. The officers utilizing the licenses and system will be GCIC certified and certified Security and Integrity. The licenses are through the CAD system that falls under the responsibility of E-911. The total cost for the purchase of the eight licenses is $15,084.00, to come from the 2021- 2022 E-911 departmen tal budget. The cost for the licenses themselves are $12,700.00 and the 24/7 support is an addi tional annual charge of $2,384.00. The annual support charge will con tinue to come out of the E-911 budget. Rozanne Braswell was appointed to serve on the Southwest GA Region al Commission board. She was appointed to fill the vacancy when Glenda Battle resigned. Although Rozanne Braswell serves as Lee A Helping Hand County’s Planning, Zoning & Engineering Director, she will repre sent the citizens on the board. Glenda Battle was recognozed by the com missioners for her many years of service on the Southwest GA Regional Commission board. The commissioners approved a resolution certifying the abandon ment of White Pond Road, north from Hattie Bell Lane to dead end. The owner of the proper ty abutting White Pond Road submitted a written request to abandon the portion of the road. A notice was published for two weeks in the Lee County Ledger adver tising the determination of the board that the de scribed portion of White Pond Road had ceased to be used by the public to the extent that no sub stantial public purpose is served by the road and the removal of said road from the county road system is otherwise in the best public interest.
