The Lee County Ledger, Wednesday, July 28,2021, Page 3A Lee GOP Party News And Special Guests Special to the Ledger by Allison Largeman The Lee County Re publican Party has been busy organizing and co ordinating several events for our community. We recently worked with the Dougherty County GOP party to host Secre tary of State candidate, David Belle Isle. On July 13, 2021, Lee GOP Chair, Tyler Johnson, introduced David to a large group of people at Austin’s restaurant on Old Dawson Road in Albany. Piper Lowe led us in prayer and William Moorhead led the pledge of allegiance and read a wonderful mission statement about our con servative values. Tracy Taylor, Dougherty GOP Chair, did a great job welcoming everyone and ran the event. David is from Gainesville, Geor gia, and is an attorney who served as Chairman of the North Fulton May or’s Association and Al pharetta Convention and Visitor’s Bureau Board. David has excellent ex perience and he and his wife have two children and remain active with North Point Community Church. David states he can repair our broken election system. He recognizes the fraud and wants to bring back vot er confidence in Georgia. David states he wants to move to hand-marked paper ballots like in 35 other states. When asked about what makes David different from the other candidates running for this position, David mentioned his vast work experience and under standing of the election system along with his legal background. This was an excellent event and very enlightening. David gave a great speech and took sever al questions from the attendees. On July 20,2021, Bran don Phillips, District 2 GOP Chair, welcomed another speaker, Latham Saddler, who is a candi date for the 2022 Unit ed States Senate seat currently held by Rever end Raphael Warnock. The event was held at Riverfront Barbecue restaurant. Lee County GOP Secretary, Allison Largeman, introduced Latham to the people who came out to meet him. It was an excellent turnout for a rainy Tues day afternoon. Latham gave an extraordinary speech about his back ground and his goals. Latham served for eight years as a Navy SEAL officer. Despite being told he would never make it as a SEAL, and a broken foot during Hell Week, he was able to complete the training and serve as a SEAL. Latham is married to Melissa and has two young sons. He spoke about his love for his twin brother, Ashby, who has Down’s Syndrome, and who may come to live with his family in the future. While in col lege at the University of Georgia, Latham felt the call to serve in the na tion’s military as 9/11 un folded. Latham became fluent in Persian-Farsi and Dari while pursuing a master’s degree in In ternational Affairs from Georgia Tech. While on active duty in the middle east, he received orders to serve at the White House as Director of Intelligence Programs on the National Secu rity Council during the Trump Administration. Latham believes in the resilience of America and Americans. Latham emphasized he is con cerned about our future, concerned about the Chi na threat, and revealed he has had many sleepless nights. He recognizes that things as they are now are wrong. He men tioned the critical need for good future leaders to step up and serve in political office now, as opposed to serving in the military. Latham stated good conservative people will need to get out of their comfort zones and serve. Security, liber ty and prosperity are the three tenants of his campaign. As a Senator, Latham will be guided by his Christian faith and conservative Georgia val ues and will put Georgia first in Washington. Lee and Dougherty conservatives are plan ning to host Gubernato rial candidate, Kandiss Taylor, on August 10, 2021, at the Leesburg li brary. We will be putting out information about this event and several other upcoming events on our Facebook pages and to our membership email list.
