Code Enforcement conducts its annual storm water inspection

Lee County Code
Enforcement is complet
ing the 2022 required
storm water inspections
this month. Part of this
inspection includes
storm water outfalls on
the creeks, lakes and
river. This year Marshal
Jim Wright decided to do
part of the inspection on
the lower Kinchafoonee
Creek by use of canoes
and kayaks.
Marshal Wright also
enlisted the aid of Flint
Riverkeeper’s Watershed
Specialist, RJ Gipaya, to
conduct some bacteria
and chemical monitoring
of potential pollution on
this popular portion of
the creek.
Included this year was
the invitation to inter
ested citizens to come
paddle with us to learn
about storm water and
water quality in general,
while at the same time
having a fun day on the
water. Ten participants
joined this group.
The small group of
people left Sandy Beach
Landing early this
past Saturday morning
and paddled down to
Sutton’s Landing. The
group stopped numerous
times to inspect the eight
or so outfalls as well as
do water testing at the
Fowltown Blue Hole,
Little Blue Hole, Palmy
ra Falls and some water
running off the eastern
bluffs at Raining Rocks
from a nearby swamp.
This trip was all about
paddling and learning,
but we did take the time
to swim and even fish a

which highlights the ex
traordinary work accom
plished by individuals,
businesses, industries,
non-profit organiza

governments to protect
Georgia’s water. On May
22, 2022, during the
Georgia Water Coali
tion’s 20th Anniversary
Celebration and Clean
13 Awards Ceremony,
these 2021 Clean 13
awardees were honored,
including Lee County’s
very own Jim Wright.
Other notable awardees

Pastures, the City of
South Fulton, Hanwha
Q Cells North Ameri
ca, Patagonia Atlanta,
Mitchell County 4-H,
the Madison County
Clean Power Coalition,
the Georgia Audubon
& Southern Conserva
tion Trust, Dr. Dionne
Hoskins-Brown, the
City of Savannah, Blue
Bird Corporation, Ath
ens-Clarke County, and
Representative Andy
Welch & Senator Chuck
Hufstetler.
Jim Wright has become
known for his work to
clean the Kinchafoonee
and Muckalee Creeks of
Lee County and make
them accessible and en
joyable for residents and
visitors alike. Mr. Wright
heads up the County’s
Rivers Alive and Great
American Cleanup
events, helps keep storm
water reports up to date,
and supports Boy Scout
and Eagle Scout projects
along the creeks and in
boat landings and parks,
hereby transforming the
County’s waterways.
Jim has been employed
with Lee County since
2000 and is the Chief
Code Enforcement
Jim Wright
Officer and Director of
the Lee County Ani
mal Shelter. He is also
affectionately known
in the community as
the County’s unofficial
historian. When not ful
filling his duties with the
County, Jim can be found
in the mountains of
North Georgia, spending
time with his family, or
artifact hunting.
