passed away Wednes
day, June 22, 2022 at
her sister’s home in
Dawson, GA. Funeral
services were conducted
Saturday, June 25, 2022
at Philema Road Bap
tist Church. Rev. Aaron
McCulley officiated.
Interment followed in
Leslie City Cemetery.
Born in Americus,
GA, Janice was raised
in Lee Co., GA and
was a graduate of Lee
County High School.
She was employed with
Phoebe Putney Memo
rial Hospital and was on
the ground level with
the development of the
Oncology Floor. She
later attended Albany
Technical College and
studied cosmetology and
opened her beauty salon
known as Southern Cuts
and Beyond.
She was preceded in
death by her parents,
Henry Vernon Walls, Sr.
and Mattie Ann Taylor
Walls. She was a mem
ber of Philema Road
Baptist Church.
Survivors include her
husband, Thomas L.
Barrow, Jr., Leslie, GA,
daughter, Megan Bar-
row (Thomas Baker),
Americus, GA, brothers,
Vernon Walls, Jr. (Con
nie), and Ricky Walls
(Christy), all of Lee Co.,
GA, sister, Elizabeth
Peek and nieces and
nephew, Holly, Leslie,
Christopher, Ashley and
Annalee.

all of his life and was

life. He was preceded
in death by his parents,

a son, Donald Franklin
Norman, Jr., his wife,
Sandra Wynelle Speir
Norman and a brother,
Lemuel (Billy) Norman.
He was a member of
Sasser United Methodist
Church.

John was born to
Patricia Ann McDermott
Steller on June 17, 1950,
in Springfield, Illinois.
Upon graduation
from high school in
1968, John fulfilled
his childhood ambition
and joined the United
States Marine Corps
wherein he served with
distinction, for the next
26 years. During this
time John was stationed
in California, Hawaii,
North Carolina, Georgia,
and Okinawa. In 1991,
John deployed to Iraq as
part of the Marine Corps
contingent of the U. S.
forces in the First Gulf
War. His final active-du
ty station was served at
the Marine Corps Lo
gistics Base in Albany,
Georgia. He retired from
active duty in 1994.
A year after his retire
ment, John was recruit
ed as a civilian by the
Marine Corps Logistics
Base in Albany as a
civilian employee. He
was recruited because of
close to him. He enjoyed
laughing, playing cards,
and holding his grand
children. He was intelli
gent, uncomplicated, and
fiercely loyal to those he
loved.

John and Sue and their
children settled in Lees
burg, Georgia during
his civilian service and
remained there follow
ing his retirement from
his civilian position
with the Marine Corps.
He was happy with his
second career because it
permitted him to con
tinue working with the
Marines. In his mind,
he never stopped being
a Marine. It was during
this time that he met his
best friend Pat Mar-
don (Mr. Pat), Sergeant
Major (retired), United
States Marine Corps.
They remained fast
friends to the end.
Never one to relax,
John spent the remainder
of his life as a property
owner and small busi
nessman in and around
Leesburg. He loved his
family, his brothers and
his friends, and did all
he could to keep them

ROAD ABANDONMENT of
CARTER PLACE ROAD
WHEREAS, the Board of Commissioners of Lee County, Georgia, has
determined that Carter Place Road, a dirt road with entrance and exit on Hwy
195 at parcel 045 030 and parcel 053 017. That which has been proposed for
abandonment is that portion of a county road right of way known as Carter
Place Road, which traverses property operated at Southern Hills Orchards for
approximately two (2) miles. Said property is located in Land Lots 075 and 105
of the 14th Land District of Lee County, Georgia; and
WHEREAS, Georgia Code requires that notice of such determination be pub
lished in the local legal organ once a week for a period of two (2) weeks;
NOW, THEREFORE, this is NOTICE of the foregoing determination and
notice that a public hearing will be conducted during the regular meeting of
the Lee County Board of Commissioners regarding the closure of the Car
ter Place Road beginning at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 12,2022 at the Lee
County Governmental Offices located at 102 Starksville Avenue North, Lees
burg, Georgia. Any citizen of Lee County or any person wherever residing may
be heard by the Lee County Board of Commissioners during the aforesaid
public hearing.
Maps are on file in the office of the Lee County Planning, Zoning & Engineer
ing Department located at 102 Starksville Avenue North, Leesburg, Georgia
