Qualifying of candidates for the November 8,2022
Special Election to fill the County Commission
District 4 vacancy will be held July 26 - 28,2022.
Qualifying will be conducted in the Elections and
Registration Office in Suite C, 100 Starksville Av
enue, North, Leesburg, GA. The qualifying period
will begin at 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday, July 26,2022
and end at 4:30 pm on Thursday, July 28,2022.
The qualifying fee is as follows:
County Commission District 4 $169.16

During the month
of June 2022, the Lee
County Building Permit
Office issued 21 permits
for single family dwell
ings. 19 permits were
issued in the unincorpo
rated area of Lee County
and two in Leesburg.
The estimated con
struction costs of the 19
homes in the unincorpo
rated area of Lee County
were $819,610.85.
During June, three
permits were issued
for accessory buildings
in the unincorporated
area of Lee County.
The estimated cost was
$67,760.00. During June,
ten permits were issued
for pools and signs in the
unincorporated area of
Lee County. The estimat

staff recently honored
Robert Ellington and
Yolanda Thacker with a
retirement reception.
They both began their
careers using a chalk
board and ended their
careers with a touch
panel digital board.
Mr. Ellington and Mrs.
Thacker were dedicated
to helping their students
and their colleagues be
successful.
Their experience and
expertise will be greatly
missed.
The reception featured
a favorite school lunch
of pizza and corn and
also a slide show com
memorating their careers
at LCES.

carport permit were
issued in the unincorpo
rated area of Lee County.
One permit was issued
for bank, office profes
sional with an estimated
cost of $1,327,000.00.
One commercial acces
sory permit was issued
with an estimated cost of
$25,000.00. One permit
to remodel a restaurant
was issued in June.
During June, one store
and customer service
permit was issued.
The estimated cost
was $352,000.00. One
demolition permit was
issued. Also 34 electrical
permits, 12 plumbing
permits, 35 heating and
air permits, three gas
permits were issued
along with two permits
for renewal and re-in
spection were issued in
the unincorporated area
of Lee County.
In Leesburg, two
permits were issued for
single family dwellings.
The estimated con
struction cost of the two
homes was $136,125.00.
Two residential addition
and alteration permits
were issued. The esti
mated cost was of the
addition and remodeling
was $9,600.00.
Three electrical permits
and three heating and air
permits along with one
renewal and re-inspec-
tion permit were issued
in Leesburg during June.
In Smithville, one
heating & air permit and
electrical permit were
issued during June 2022.

Students who are within 80%
of earning a credential could be
eligible to receive a new Georgia
College Completion Grant
Albany Technical Col
lege announces a new
opportunity for students
called the Georgia Col
lege Completion Grant
Program. Under this
grant, any student within
80% completion of a
credential and has an
outstanding balance due
to direct costs at Albany
Technical College could
be eligible for these
funds. The maximum
award is up to $2,500,
depending on the unpaid
balance of direct costs.
Kierra Sparks, Director
of Financial Aid at Al
bany Technical College,
said, “Recipients must
be enrolled in an under
graduate degree, diplo
ma, or certificate major
or program of study at a
Technical College Sys
tem of Georgia (TCSG)
institution and meet
the program eligibility
requirements. ”
