On May 1, the Lee County Retired Educators hosted a luncheon for those individuals retiring from the Lee County school system. There
were 19 people out of 25 in attendance. There are so many years of service represented by those pictured above. The club would like to
extend a big thank you to each of you for all you have done for the children of Lee County. Lee County Retired Educators wishes each and

Since its inception
11 years ago, the Rib
Showdown has grown
into a much-anticipat
ed community event
education in order to
help the next generation
of farmers grow their
farm businesses.
The Fresh from the
Farm initiative gives
grants each year to
farmers who grow
for or own qualifying
produce stands. The
program provides cash
for grant recipients to
enhance their oper
ations or marketing
and promotions, like
buying ads or devel
oping a website and
social media presence.
Leesburg
Leesburg Police Chief
Chris Prokesh provided
an update to the city
council during their
meeting May 2 of cases
and incidents worked by
officers during April.
Chief Prokesh reported
that during April, offi
cers worked 744 cases
and incidents and made
34 arrests. Officers
issued 73 warnings and
worked ten accidents
including one hit and
run and accidents with
deer.
Municipal court cases

be used to attract new

is running fiber from
Highway 32 and antic
ipates providing fiber
featuring food trucks,

those farmers who sell
locally grown produce
at a farmers market or
u-pick operations in the
21 counties of our As
sociation territory. We
know that these markets
are key in developing
both local and regional
food systems that in
turn support the sus
tainability of our family

officers included 129
traffic stops, 13 suspi
cious person/vehicle,
12 unlock vehicle, six
welfare checks, three
speeding, reckless
driving, four residential
alarms,three assist mo
torists, two assist other
agency/service, nine
complaints, six disor
derly, four domestic,
three fights, four noise
complaints and 421 area
checks.
$17,475. According to a
representative of GMA,
the target rate change
to the billed contribu
tion for every member
of GMA was a 10%
increase due to high
inflation levels which
impact the replacement
and repair costs of
vehicles and buildings.
Also a factor for Lees
burg’s increase was the
coverage for additional
vehicles and employ
ment of additional
police officers.
Bob Alexander, City-
Manager, informed the
council members that
Lee County and the
Cities of Leesburg and
Smithville will conduct
a Public Hearing to
update the Lee County
Joint Comprehensive
Plan Tuesday, May 23,
2023 at 5:30 p.m. at the
T. Page Tharp Govern
mental Building. The
current plan expires
in February 2024. In
accordance with the
Georgia Minimum
Standards and Proce
dures for Local Com
prehensive Planning,
each community must
conduct a public hear
ing before the start of
the planning process.
The hearing is de
signed to brief the
community on the
process used to update
the comprehensive plan
and offer opportunities
for public participation
and public input in the
development of the
plan.
