Leadership Lee Acade
my in a ceremony held
May 9, 2023. These
students were select
ed to participate in
the Inaugural Class of
the Junior Leadership
Lee Academy (JLLA)
through a nomination,
application, and inter
view process back in the
Lall of 2022.

Each year, JLLA will
provide an intense,
5-month program pro
viding a deep dive into
leadership development,
utilizing the J.W. ban
ning Institute’s curricu
lum “Youth Leadership
in Action”, coupled with
a monthly community
focus. Nominations
for the rising 8th grade
class will begin when
students return to school
in August 2023.
Now that our inaugural
class has completed the
first cohort of JLLA,
they have the opportuni
ty to continue working
with the program as
Junior Ambassadors.
The Junior Ambassa
dor program will serve
our students 9th - 12th
grades with ongoing
delivery of leader
ship development and
community integration.
Ambassadors will meet
4 times a year. They
will be educated on how
to build an awareness
campaign, how to build
a community service
project, and then giv
en the opportunity to
implement both. They
will learn to become
peer mentors and will be
mentored by members
of our community and
will also be given the
opportunity to volun
teer with our partner
ing organizations and
potentially participate
in various leadership

these are our inaugural

to help us develop the

The goal of JLLA and
the Junior Ambassador
Program is to provide
opportunities for the
youth of Lee County
to work collaboratively
within the community
alongside community
leaders to encourage
growth of personal,
community and leader
ship skills. The opportu
nity to partner with the
J.W. Tanning Institute
of Leadership Devel-

rating the end of slavery
in the United States, is
observed annually on
June 19.
This community event
