During the called
meeting on August 8,
2023, the Lee County
Board of Education
voted to name Dr.
Kathleen Truitt as the
next superintendent of
the Lee County School
System. Dr. Truitt is the
tenth superintendent in
the history of the Lee
County School System
since its establishment in
1870. Dr. Truitt started
her term today, August
16,2023.

appeared to closely align
with the desired qualifi

Twenty (20) appli
cations were received
from a broad range of
applicants. Lrom these,
a number of candidates
were selected for close
review and subsequently
interviewed as the Board
sought to determine
those applicants best
qualified for the position.
At least fourteen (14)
calendar days prior to
taking final action on the
position, the Board made
available, to the public
for inspection, docu
ments concerning the
sole finalist named.
The finalist, Dr.
Kathleen Truitt, was
collectively determined
by the Board to be best
qualified for the position
of Superintendent.
The Board wishes

Biography:
Dr. Kathleen Truitt is
looking forward to the
opportunity to serve the
incredible Lee County
community. Dr. Truitt is
a highly esteemed leader
with more than two
decades of educational
experience and a laser
focus on student oppor
tunities and success.
Dr. Truitt began her
career in education as a
classroom teacher — a
role that brought her to
Henry County schools in
2001, where she served
as an elementary and
middle grades classroom
teacher across multiple
content areas. In 2007,
she was tapped to open
a new school, Woodland
Elementary, as its first
assistant principal. Lrom
there, she went to Clay
ton County, where she
served as an elementary
principal from 2010-
2012, before returning to
Henry County Schools
as principal of Ola
Middle School, serving
nearly 1,300 students
from 2012-2018. In
2013, Ola Middle was
recognized as one of the
Georgia schools with in
credible gains in student
achievement. During
Dr. Truitt’s tenure, Ola
Middle became known
for academic excellence,
earned national rec
ognition in Line Arts,
experienced expansion
and excellence in Career,
Technical and Agricul
tural Education, and en
joyed a growing legacy
of athletic success.
Dr. Truitt was pro
moted to Assistant
Superintendent in Henry
County, leading the
43,000 Henry County
students in 2019 to an
11.4-point growth in dis
trict CCRPI. Dr. Truitt
led teams in developing
groundbreaking learn
ing models that address
under-performance
and enrichment with a
focus in Literacy and
Mathematics success
for all students. Her
leadership also aided in
building the foundation
al elements of a digital
resource platform that
has been internationally
recognized and serves as
a model for the State of
Georgia.
Dr. Truitt is a life
long learner. She holds
a Bachelor’s degree in
Communication with a
minor in Spanish from
the University of Lou
isville, a Master’s in
Education from Spalding
University, a Specialist
in Educational Leader
ship from Georgia State
College and University,
and earned her Doctor
ate in Educational Lead
ership from Columbus
State University. Addi
tionally, she holds certi
fication in Educational
Leadership from the
University of West Geor
gia. Dr. Truitt is married
to her husband, Dennis,
and they have two adult
children, Clayton (Kelly)
and Elizabeth (Patrick).
