Equipment Storage Concerns Smithville Council
The Smithville Council
once again discussed
the cluttered storage
of equipment for sale
in front of a business
downtown at their
meeting August 21st.
After failed attempts to
get the business owner
to remove the cluttered
equipment from the
front of his business, the
council is reviewing an
ordinance that would
bring the business into
compliance.
Tommy Coleman, City
Attorney, presented the
council with a proposed
ordinance that would
prohibit outside storage
of items for sale. The
ordinance would allow
businesses to utilize the
outside of the business
structure for special
sales. A permit would be
required to authorized
the outdoor storage but
the storage could not
exceed 72 hours unless
good cause could be
shown to the mayor and
council.
The council is expect
ed to take action on the
ordinance at their next
meeting in September.
The council approved
the purchase of awnings
for the community build
ing and the train depot
from Awning Plus in Al
bany. The awning for the
community building will
cost $1980 and the small
er awning for the train
depot will cost $410. The
metal awning for the ad
joining building next to
the community building
will be painted.
