The Led County Ledger Your Hometown Source Of Local News Hometown Newspaper of Judy and Buddy Rainey Volume XLVI- Number 3 Leesburg, Georgia - - September 20, 2023 Fifty Cents Lee County Commissioners Set Millage Rate During the county commission meeting September 12th, the commissioners set the millage rate of 16.106 Special to the Ledger The Lee County High School 2023 Class of Distinguished Alumni were honored and rec ognized September 14 and 15, 2023. The purpose of this program is to recognize outstanding alumni who have maintained a high standard of excellence and distinguished them selves through their work, personal accom plishments, or in the lives of others. These individuals exemplify the ideals of the Lee mills with a 3.700 mills roll back of the local option sales tax for a net millage rate of 12.406 mills. This millage rate County School System and the community it serves and serve as role models for current and future Lee County High School students. On Friday, September 15, our distinguished alum ni spoke to students in the school system and were honored with a luncheon at the Fee County Chamber of have not increased the millage rate for property owners. The commissioners ap proved a motion to place Commerce. On Friday evening, they were hosted at the football game, being recognized during half-time. The Fee County High School Distinguished Alumni Program will select up to 7 recipients every year. Applications are available year-round and will be due by June 1, 2024, for the 2024 Class ofFCHS Distinguished Alumni. Fee County’s Special Purpose Focal Option Sales Tax VIJ (SPFOST Vll) was approved by the voters during the May 2018 election. A discussion on the "Pocket Parks” revi talization project was tabled. Jeremy Morey, Recreation Director, is to meet individually with the three com missioners where the proposed parks would be located. The commis sioners are set to discuss the proposed parks later. A contract with Archer Company for the completion of a full Compensation and Pay Classification Study was approved by the com missioners. The cost will be for $27,000.00. The commissioners ta bled amending an ordi nance relating to green- space. Green-space determines unbuildable land and undevelopable land on proposed de velopments. Chairman Mathis indicated that the staff wanted to make additional changes to the ordinance. The commissioners ap pointed Cicily Florence to the Housing Authority Board for a term of five years. Bobby Yandell was appointed to the Tax Assessors Board to fill a current vacancy with an unexpired term of three years that expires May 31, 2024. A utility easement for the City of Fees- burg was approved on the county recreational property along the by pass. The commissioners approved a variance application for Shirley Lorraine Mills for a second home which had been approved previous ly and identified as an in-law suite, on the same property. Mrs. Mills was requesting to replace a mobile home with a new mobile home that is larg er than the 1,500 square foot maximum allowed size for an in-law suite. The property at 376 Middle Rd South has a total of 31.92 acres. The commissioners declared three vehicles as surplus be sold on GovDeals. The vehicles are a 2002 Ford F-150 XL with 185,631 miles, 2003 Ford 150 XL with 205,647 miles and a 2009 Chevy Tahoe with 296,177 miles. Paul Clayton and Sam Johnson, expressed con cerns with the method that the road department maintains Old Leslie Road on which they reside. Both Mr. Clayton and Mr. Johnson have made numerous com plaints concerning the maintenance of that road and have suggested sev eral times that the road should be paved. 111 * I ■ Lee County High School 2023 Class Of Distinguished Alumni Honored Lee County Fire and EMS Services responded to 137 Calls Emergency Services responded to 137 calls during the week of Sep tember 10 - 16, 2023.
