They include swamps, rivers, creek, springs, lakes and even small ponds. These unique wetland ecosystems provide many different and valuable benefits to our environment, public health, and the economy. Our single most im portant water resource is our freshwater aquifers. We are fortunate to have these pure sources of water for use, and need to be mindful of con servation and sharing, especially in drought years. We also need to be mindful of pollution caused by run-off, illicit discharges, or illegal dumping of solid waste. All citizens need to be aware of pollution from such things as oil and gas, sewage spills, construction project soil run-off, illegal tire dumps and other poten tial pollutants to keep our waters clean and healthy for all to use. Lee County Code To Subscribe Call 229-759-2413 Enforcement (via storm water and general water management) is very aware of the important role waterways play in our environment: the economy, culture, and enjoyment of our region are all linked to these water resources. They are committed to testing and inspection not just our creeks and river, but also the important wetlands that provide us with so much value in Lee County. Annual waterway cleanups are regularly scheduled to help keep our water resources clean and safe to use. Work on restoring flows is also critical, as are pollution enforcement actions when necessary. These waterways and wetlands are arguably among our most important commu nity assets, right along side the citizens and the soil.
