At last Tuesday’s Council meeting City
Attorney Bert Gregory swore in Council
member Amanda White. White was re-elected
to the council with no opposition.

Leesburg City Council
Monthly Meeting
The Leesburg City
Council approved a bid
to run a water line along
the Leesburg Bypass.
The Water project
around by pass will cost
$1.4 million. The orginal
plan was for a water
lines and a well but the
well was elimiated from
the project because of
the cost.
The council approved
the SPLOST 8 agree
ment. If the refereren-
dumm passes the county
will be able to get a
$7 million bond. This
will allow them to start
courthouse expansion
and recreation projects
as early as October
2025. They will not
have to wait to collect
money before they start
the projects.
The concept plan for
recreation land is about
$35-45 million dollars.
It will have to be done in
phases. Prelimary plans
call for an amphitheater,
play grounds, pickle
ball courts, and football
fields. It also includes a
multi purpose building
that could be used for
basketball and other
things like ag, car and
boat shows.
Leesburg Police Chief
Chris Prokesh report
ed that November was
a slow month for his
department. There 702
calls for service and
39 arrest. Traffic 48
citations were issued.
The department still has
vacancies. There are
currently more School
Resource Office than
officers on rotation on
the road.
$8,100 was collected in
Red Speed (school zone)
fines.

at the
Community
Building
The Board of Commis
sioners of Lee County
is conducting a joint
public hearing on the
Lee County Joint Com
prehensive Plan draft.
The joint meeting with
Leesburg and Smithville
elected officials will be
held Tuesday, December
19, 2023 in the Opal
Cannon Auditorium
of the T. Page Tharp
Building in Leesburg.
The meeting will start at
5:00 p.m.
The current plan will
expire on February 28,
2024. In accordance
with the Georgia Min
imum Standards and
Procedures for Local
Comprehensive Plan
ning (Chapter 110-12-1),
each community must
conduct a public hearing
once an update of the
plan is drafted and made
available for public
review, but before trans
mittal to the Regional
Commission for review.
The hearing is to
brief the community
members on the plan’s
contents, provide an
opportunity for residents
to make final sugges
tions, additions, or
revisions, and notify the
community of when the
plan is submitted to the
Georgia Department of
Community Affairs for
review.
