The Convention of the Populist party met according to call of the ex ecutive committee. Joe H. Gunnels was nominated for Senator; J. J- White for Represents live; A. H. Stapler tor Clerk; F. M- Henderson for Sheriff; J. M. Odell for lax Receiver; M. J Ragsdale for Tax Collector; 11. L. Acrey Treasury: R. A. Wynn Surveyor and G. T. Campbell w as nominated for Coroner' Committee on resolutions made the following report which was adopted; Your committee appointed to draft resolutions expressing the sentiments of this convention beg leave to sub mit the following : Resolved That we heartily endorse oar National platform also our State platform adoj ted by our state conven tion and recommend that our demands as set fourth by said convention be enacted into laws. ResolVed That we require of each candidate put out by this convention that they use nothing but honorable means to secure their election, and would rather see them go down in do feat than to resort to dishonest means or questionable methods to secure their elections. Whereas Our rate of Taxation im posed bv the state has more than doublej in the fifteen years, and the county levies are about on an average with the state’s increase therefore be it Resolved That we demand a re duction tn the expenditures of the va rious state departments also a reduc tion in the county expenses so as to lesson the burden of taxation on the tax payers.
