Col. Robert G. Inger.soll on love:
“Love is the only bow on life's
dark cloud. It is'the morning anil
evening star. It shinas on the babe
and sheds its mdiiice on the quiet
tomb. It is the mother ot art; in
spirer of po-t, patriot and philo.so
pher. Jt is the air and light of
every hcrtrtjbnililcr of every home;
kiniller of every lire on the hearth}
it was the first dress of immortali
ty. It fills the world with melody,
for music is the voice of love. Love
is tho magician, the enchanter that
changes worthless things to joy,
and makes right royal queens and
kings of common clay. It is the
ferfume of that wonderful fioiver,
the heart, and w ithout that sacred
passion, that divine swoon, we are
less than lmasts; but with it—
earth Is heaven and we are gods.

There is a lot of marrying going

Mr John I)av is and Miv, Lizzie

Now just a few words to Mr.
‘ Git Father.” llis letter of abuse
ended with the words, “When I
hear nothing 1 say nothing.” Well
judging from the long, disconnect
ed article which he devoted to me,
he must have heard something
“drap” in the Journal recently.
After lie Jabbed people through
the Journal several month, 1 open
ed ii]i a little fun with Git Futher,
merely for past time, and he at
once became angry, and rearing
up oa Ids hind hys remarked:
“Fools step in where angels four to
tread.” Intimating that any one
who would brush up against him
in a newspaper controversy was a
fool. What do you think about
that for egotism!
1 started out a little teasing
game with Fit Futher because no
u hiskeis htul ever sippeun and on bis
phiz, and lie told me to go to Chi
na where they have plenty of hair,
lie reminds me of a grocery man I
knew once upon a time. A negro
st4‘p|Hsl into liis store and asked,
“Is you got any pigs feet," and
the grocery man replied. “No, but
i'se go: hogs head cheese.”
He says a mail is “narrow con
tracted'” who thinks i! takes beard
to make a man, and cites W.J.
Bryan and Willie Hearst to prove
liis as coition. Now let’s see about
that. The only thing that Bryan
ever done was to work his jaw and
jump from issue to issue until lie
ruined the democratic parly soul
and body, and the only reason he
never ruined the entire country
was that there happeed to be mil
lions of greater men than he, who
voted him down and out and stop
ped his fanaticism forever. And
Willie Hearst. Hush your fuss
honey. Why Will it* Hearst was
born a piilionair, and today bin
mother is one of the richest women
in America, and among other val
uable property owns the Home
stake mine in the Black Hills
which yields $150,000 worth of
gold every month in the year. All
Willie lias to do is to say, “Ma. 1
want a few hundred thousand to
buy anew paper plant and hire
some writers,’ and the old lady
says, “Here’s your money, Willie,
now run alongand Ima good boy.”
Great. Why Git could be great
: in the eyes of money idolotew if
he had a snap like that. For Git’s
benefit I will inform him that those
strong editorials lie has been read
ing in Willie’s papers are not the
product of Willie’s brain, blit em
anate from the glint intellect of
that wonderful piece of Immunity
named Arthur Brisbane, who also
wrote the platform for \V i I lie’s
party. For his services Mr. Bris
bane receives a large pile of \\ il
lie’s mother’s money.
Git says “I go a whole lot on
hair.” Well, - sometimes J do.
There is Broughton, the greatest,
Baptist preacher in America, near
ly all hair, and the greatest mis
sionary who ever landed in Ghiua,
Young J. Allen, nearly all whis
kers; and all the pictures of the
old prophets that 1 have ever
seen wore whiskers, even our
Blessed Savior. 1 wonder it (lit
ever read anything about a man
named Sampson who had long
hair and great strength, and when
the hair was cut off the strength
went too. I guess he never read
that, lor a man who would write
such an abusive letter as lie wrote,
1 am sure never reads his biblo,
and if he does it is w asted time for
he has proved to the world that
he is not benefit ted thereby. He
had U tter put in his time loading
Willie's papers so he can keep post
oil on the New York cotton mar
ket.
He says “dark races are igno
rant ami I pattern after them.”
Greeks are a very dark people,
still they are the first thinking
pimple we have any history of.
Greece gave us our first philoso
phers. Wonder if he would call
Homer ignorant. Guess lie would.
lie even acuses me of eating old
shoes. I never ate an old shoe in
my life, but if my appetite ever
calls for anything in that line I
am going down to Git’s house, buy
one of his old shoes and eat it, for
I am sure his feet smells like crab
apple blossoms.
Now, Mr. Git Bother, you kiss
your wife and babies and “git” in
a good humor, for candidly, I love
you tietter without moustache than
it would lie possible for ine to loam
you with it. lam a young lady

A New Temperance Organiza*
tion.
The Women’s Christian Temper
nnee Union has never been very
strong and active in Homer, tln>
ladles taking but. little interest in
temperance movement which is
sweeping the country. The men,
realizing there should be some con
certed action on the part of our
citizens in order to keep abreast of
the times, have banded themselves
together torthe purpose of uphold
ing the noble cause, and formed
an organization to lie known as
the “Teetotalers Hub.” Follow
ing are the officers;
Oscar Brow n, President.
A. J. Hilton, Ist vice-president..
