At’auta, Ga.—To encourage th<
Southern farmers to take up sheep
raising, the live stock department
of the Southern Railway has is
sued a booklet telling of the ad
vantages of the South for this in
dustry and giving full information
in regard to the care and manage
ment of sheep under conditions ob
taining in the South. A copy of
the booklet will be mailed to any
farmer on request by Live Stoek
| Agent F. L. Word.
The booklet reproduces an are
tide on sheep-raising by R. S.
I Curtis, an authority on live stock
! connected with the North Carolina
| Experiment Station, who says in
his introduction of adaptability
of the South to sheep raising:
“The sheep industry of the
South as now conducted represents
one of the most backward and least
profitable lines of live stoek hus
bandry A large part of the
waste land in this section could
' lie used prolitably for sheep rais
ing. Much of the rough and oth
wise unused land now covered
with coarse grasses and forest un
dergrowth would furnish a large
amount of pasture and at the same
time the soil would be greatly im
proved in agricultural value by
the use of sheep. For the amount
of money invested and the quantity
of feed required sheep will gen
orally return a greater net
profit than most any other kind
of live stock that may be grown in
the South.”

BANES COUNTY JOURNAL, HOMEK, GA.,
Womans Missionary
Societ y al Maysvill
It was Maysvllle’s good fort urn
to have the Woman’s Missionary
Society of the Elbertou District.
North Georgia Conference, meet
hero from April 30th to May 3rd.
About thirty delegates came from
various charges throughout the
District and Maysville threw open
her doors to receive them. There
was hearty cooperation among the
different denomination in the en
tertainment of these visitors.
The success of the meeting was
due in large measure to the wise
planning and management of the
conference by its efficient District
Secretary, Mrs. H. B. Childs of
Toccoa. Ga. She arranged to
have the leading officers of the
North Georgia Woman’s Mission
ary Council present. They came
to us with their wide knowledge
of what the women are doing in the
work of missions. They kindled
enthusiasm in our women by their
stiring messages and wide outlook.
Ia addition to the conference offic-
ers Mrs. Chiles brought to the con
ferenee Miss Kate Cooper who lias
been a missionary for six years in
Korea, and Miss Winn a deaconess
who is working among the mill
people in Atlanta. Miss Cooper
addressed the people a number
of times and her words were always
full of interest. ‘ bit of the abund
ance of the heart the mouth speak
eth”, and as she spoke from time
to time of the religions life and
conditions of the people in Korea
and her work there, we know that
her heart was in the land of chosen
among the people she had learned
to love, She told about the child
life and home life of the people and
made us to understand it more
clearly by dressing in costume and
having boys and girls dress in cos
tume, and also b\ having a number
of curios to show. All who had
the privilege of hearing her will
have a deeper interest in Korea.
Miss Winn’s story of a day’s
work iii Scariitt Bible and Training
School, of which she is a graduate)
was interesting. As she told us of
her work as a deaconess at Wesley
House in Atlanta we felt that here
was one who had given up all that
she might follow Christ and that
in her life exemplified the law of
self-sacrifice. However, she did
not seem to be aware that she had
made any sacrifice, for it was all a
joy to her.
We have spoken at length re
gardiug the messages and work
of Miss Kate Cooper and Miss Winn
