Young Dufrane was afterwards
a frequent caller at Miss Johnson’s
house, and, being a likely young
fellow, he found favor in tiie eyes
of the girl's father and was
cordially received by the ytfung
mistress of the house. About this
time a y.oung Southerner, Orlando
Ambererombie, appeared in the
neighbohood, anti being of
excellent address, became the lion

in love with him. The intimacy
between Miss Johnson and the
Southerfi’OT' hastened the suit of
young Dufiaue, but his proposal
was rejected by the girl, although
she told him that she felt honored
by his offer. Mary’s father was
gre Uly disappointed, and said so

dually consented to marry Du

A few days af?cr the return
from the wedding trip Mrs. Du

to inform her of the illness of £

her immediate presence. With her
hushaiMTs consent, she left home

failed to return, and then it was
learned that she had left Erie in
the company of Ambererombie.
