It is too big, sure and certain of its des- fav . u fc'il just humli along and 3 ai that not even a Kepub- bean party in power can hold the vRjuth back show 7h« returns from many of ihe n ,rtheru and western .tales plain ly indicate the fact tkatthe demo ns nominated the wrong man for president. They elected demo cratic stae officers and a republi can president wnich gives the ap pearance that they had no faith in nor did not like Bryan. The nomination of Mr. Bryan for & third time was an idiotic nrocc— dure; behind it was the passionate umeason of a class of politicians witnout capacity for leadership or understanding of statesmanship The thinking democrats of the cuntry deliberately concluded that the rehabilitation of the dem ocratic party would be hopeless until the Bryan mania should spend itself, and so they fell in with the Denvi-r program and fol- trntd Mack, Haskell, Woodson and the rest of their crew Jto ine . i- tahie disaster. Whether or not the people who believe in the real principles of democracy will bi al» lowed to direct the party’s activi ties in the future remains to be Business Will Boom. The 'election of Mr. Tuft will mean the beginning of additional prosperity: thet is, it will mean more Jor those who hove money and something for the unpr r -sper>. M ur as well. The men of brains and enterprise who were crippled by the panic, who were dishearten, ed by their losse*, have had ti ne to get their second wind. Some of the old leaders may have fallen by the wavside, but others will arise to take their place, im patient at the long delay attendant upon the uncertainty of the eke tion. Crush The Night Riders. Martial law prevails in that part of Tennessee where ‘‘night riders” have been most violent. It is a sad state of afiairs, The same lawless spirit cursed Kentucky. Lands, fertile lands, thousands of acres once in prosperous cultivaticn, are idle and deserted; thousands of farmers have fled (hose sections, because intimidated; property worth millions of dollars has been destroyed. That is whai indul gence in lawlessness and violence bring- ;that is the result of defiance of law and public sentiment. God forbid we shall have such scenes in Georgia, Every consideration of sanity, of self-defense, of soundest public policy, demands that the “night rider” in Georgia shall be cru-hed with an :ron and relentless hand. —News. Albany to St. Andrews Bay) There is no longer oecas on for loubt that work of comaruciing the Georgiy Southwestern and Gulf Railroad from Albany and Dawson to St. Andrews Bay, Florida, will soon begin. There has been filed for record in Dougherty county a mortgage for the railroad company, through its president, W. vl. Legg, an* II. J Bruton, Iroin BaiubriJge, secretary and treasurer, tor $4,0o0,o0o to the Uarnegie Trust Co , 'of New York. The road is to cost not more than $20,o0o a mile and the Railroad Commission has authorized the issue of bonds in the sum ot §4,o00,0oo. The mortgage recites that it is the ; urpose ot the company to build a line of railroad from Dawson an ! Albany in a southweaterly direction througri Terrell,Calhoun,Dougherty, Baker, Miller and Decatur counties in Georgia, and through Jackson, Calhoun and Washington counties in Flo ida, to Dyers Point, which is located on St. Andrews Bav, Gulf of Mexico, a distance of 157 mile-. It is stated that it is also the intention ot the company to build branch hues and acquire others by purchase, making an aggregate mileage of ab< ut 200. First and last, seyeu companies have been chartered to build a Iin- ol railroad from Aloany to St. Andrews Bay.. But the Legg- Bruton and associates enterprise is a certainty and we felicitate this en tire section upon the fact. Hurrah for the new enterprise. Grand and Petit Jurors. Legal Advertisements.
