A child of Gut Mixon near Tippett- ville, died yesterday afternoon of pneu monia. Miss Nina Beverly of Spalding, visited Miss Annie Haslam, at Pinehurst, last week. r The bridge across Gum creek near Ebeneezer church was washed away by the recent rains. Allen Morris spent Sunday with friends at Pinehurst, and'attended the revi val at the Methodist church Mrs. Sam Carnes and little son, Glover, visited her daughter Mrs V. O. Harvard at Arabi, Sunday. Miss Lida Rushin came down front her school at Welston, Saturday and spent Sunday with homefolks. Rev. J. M. Kelly will preach at Richwood next Sunday to make up for the appointment he missed last Suit- day. Miss Bert|ia Leonard returned home Saturday from Macon,, where she spent a few days .With her aunt, Mrs. John Holmes. It is rumored th’at Capt. Samuel Carnes is thinking of moving to Car- tersvllle and engaging in the brick business. Will Summerford and his pretty and charming sister, Miss Mouda, visited friends here a short while Sunday af ternoon. Mr. West, of Cordele, was here Sun day, while Agent Lamb of the G. S. A F. was visiting friends out near Tip- pettville. ' Mrs Julia King of Henderson, passed through the city Sunday onroute to see her sister Mrs Wiley Hall, a few miles below town. ' Rev. W. A. Huekaby of the Methodist Orphans Home, at Macon, succeeded in securing $26 in cash subscriptions at Pinehurst, Monday morning. The lecture of Rev. Walker Lewis has been postponed'from Friday night until April the 4th. Let everybody remember the date and come out. Mrs. Jno. F. Butler and daughter Annie Lou, returned to their home at Drayton, yesterday morning after spending a few days here with rela tives. Romulus Bell, an, old antl-ballem negro who lived about 2} miles South of town died about '7 o’clock Sunday night. He was 70 years old and a good negro. The ladles of the Missionary Sooiety of, the Baptist church, lit Pinehurst, quilted 20 quilts last week and sent them to the Baptist Orphans Home at Atlanta. H. W. Campbell, R. E. Harris, W B. Mathews, J. B. Scott and editor C. M. McKenzie of Cordele, were among the prominent visitors here from that city this morning. R. B. Solomon of Cordele? was in the city this morning and informed us that he had accepted a position with a prom inent hardware firm at Fitzgerald, and will reside there in the future. John Bennett came down from Ma con, Monday night with R. L. Heard & Sons and they are selling a targe number of them. Some time ogo Mr. “Lish” Bond, of Macoh county, was killed by a train on the Central railroad at Montezuma, and hia wife sued the company for damages and was given a verdict for $2,600, The case was carried to the supreme court, which has ji^st render ed a decision in favor of Mrs. Bond and in accordance with the verdict of the lower court. Mrs. Bond is a sister of Mrs. Cornelia Lamar and Mr. P. Lovejoy, of this place. Her attorneys in the case were OoL T. 0. Woodward of this city was painfully hurt one day last week while out at tho home of hi* son, Jas. M. Woodward, near town.. He was stooping down to get the lines ftom under the feet of the horse when he was kicked by the animal just below the knee, inflating a painful bruise. Pcavy was convicted of murder, having con fessed the deed and sentenced to be hanged. He was recently respited for 30 days in order to be .allowed to testify in a criminal cose. »The telegrams nnd letters urged commutation of sentence on the ground of public sentiment. Governor Candler, however, did not see fit to interfere. Peary had confessed he was guilty of the crime charged and under all the circumstances of the case the governor decided that the execu tion should take place...
