The top of the bathing pool stationed
on tho rear of-the Atheletic club, room
collapsed Wednesday night about 11
o’clock.. Fortunately no one was under
It, but some of the members were in
the club room - at the- time of the col
lision.- I

Mr. F«ank Penny, a nephew of Judge
Z. T. Penny of this city, who left Dooly
county about 16 years ago and went to
Florida, has been in the city and coun
ty on- a visit to relatives and- old
friends for the past ten days. During
the-paat four years Mr. Penny has seen
quite a great deal ef the world. At
the outbreak of the war with Spain ho
joined a calvary regiment and went
over to Cuba to fight for his country,
and was present during the battles; but
escaped without injury. After that he
went to the Philipines and from there
to China. His'reglment was one of the
first that entered the city ofl Pekin.
He returned to this country in March
and was mustered out of the service
on the 21st, day of that month. As a
result of Ills journey he has acquired
quite a lot of useful information, and

Boy D. Stovall left yesterday for
Palos, Ala., after spending u- few day*
here with his mother. Uoj^haa been
away from Vienna for Iho past sixteen
months and has traveled iu Ala*, Miss.,
La., Texas and flexico. The News
will visit him twice-a-week.
W. A. J. Hall was in to see us Thurs
day afternoon nnd told of his having t
sow that delivered nine pig* last De
cember and a few days ago thirteen
more, making 22 in about four months.
