The following news item apears
in a Kansas paper of recent date :
-“Bill Damn's daughter Grace has

COMMUNICATION.
He
'Get
there and stay there,’ and he made a
political harangue in favor of Guerry.
“It proved that he would be p party
to a fraud, in this matter, and > is
fraud on general principles.
“It’proved that his espousal of Guer-
ry's case is a dead blow to that gentle^
man, inasmuch as several parties who
were for Guerry before are now for
Terrell or Estill.
“It proved that the people of Douglas
love to be defrauded for they paid
from 60c to $1.00 to hear a Guerry
speech.
It proved that the old fable about
the jackass imagining himself a lion,
tried to roar and could only bray, was
true, for Sam is a very long eared lion,
can bray and thinks he can roar.
“It proved that when a lecturer drags
politics on the stage under the gulse.of
literary efforts and besmirches the au
dience with what they didn’t pay to
hear, that he is not particular how he
gets his money
“It proved that no church in Dougins
will ever get out of debt if it attempts
to foist Sam Jones on the people again.
"It poroved that we were mistaken
when we thought him a pure man and
a great preacher, tried to defend him
from censure and made ourselves a
fool."
Mr. Editor: The nomination is
little over one month off and I suppose
every man who expects to vote has
made up his mind as to who he will
vote for. There has been plenty said
for every thinking man. Now, let us
deal with Mr. Guerry as we would like
to be dealt with. Wo will say nothing
hard against him, but give him juitico T>l n -nf ofirm
in every sense of the word. It is not A 1 ‘ U1 ‘«UU11
the people of Georgia who have side
tracked the old Bud. He has caused it
himself by misrepresenting and trying
to mislead the good people. He accused
Mr. Terrell and his supporters wrong
fully and he has been a failure to prove
what he said he could prove. Is it
possible tjiat the thinking people of
Georgia would vote for a man who is
wrong to start with; what kind of
governor would he make? I look on
the old Bud ns a man who is not a safe
one to sit in the governor's chair.
The Potts telegram, what he said
about the Macon Telegraph—his home
paper, railroads, corporations, and that
the railroads were hauling Terrell and
his supporters on free passes, lobbyism
and a great many other things he has
said are not trne and he can't prove

We are glad Vienna will get the

Her citizens were tireless in their

deserve a great deni of credit for
their work.—Montezuma Record.
We have heurd of a great many
people in other towns express them
selves as wanting Vienna to get
thd railroad sine; the contract was
signed up by the railroad authori
ties. It’s a pity they didn’t talk
that way before.
Murk our prediction that the
candidate that circulates or allows
his friends to circulate false re
ports on his opponent will he
defeated without a doubt. The
time has come we are glad to say,
when the fair minded people of
Dooly county don’t jump ut and
form conclusions in favor ot > false
reports on candidates.

In the state oratorio] contest in
Atlanta last Friday ni«ht between
representatives of Emory, Mercer,
State University, Tech and Dah-
lonega, N. W. Grant of the latter
college won Hie victory over Mer
cer, which college had won three
successive times and came second
in the debate. The subject used
by Mr. Grant was: "The Righting
of a Wrong.”
Sain Jones is not a member of
any political party; yet he is trying
to dictate to the democrats of
Georgia who they should nominate
for governor. Mr jones is admired
as a preacher und a lecturer by the
writer, but we don't think he is
the proper man to dictate or urge
the democrats to - select his choice
for governor.
A negro crimnal condemned to
hang in North Carolina sold his
body for fib, which he invested in
gingfer cakes. The Cakes he fin
ished the night before the execution
was to occur. The next day the
sentence was commuted to life im
prisonment. The would be pur
chaser of the corpse then wished he
had saved bis |to, and the negro
was sorry that he had not made his
cakes last longer—Athens Banner.
he was representing the people—he was
in a position then to stop some of these
evils. No, he was a railroad lawyer; I
look upon the old Bud os being one of
the fathers of lobbyism. How does he
know so much about free passes and
the evils if he had not been a member
of that gang? The principal planks of
his platform are state prohibition and
lobbyism.
Candidate Guerry has no effect upon
conservative thinking minds. I am
convinced that he is a first-class mud
slinger and a demagogue of the first
water. His abuse and critioism on
Terrell has not been noticed by him,
who has gono along conducting a clean
and honorable campaign.
O. B. Pzaav.
P. S. My friend “Pinehurst" accuses
Mr. Terrell of putting tax on fertilizers
for poor farmers to pay; I deny tHfe
charge and you can’t prove it. You
have certainly been asleep and just*
woke up if that is all you know about
it. ftr Terrell didn’t have anything
to do with that. I guess you must have
belonged to the cork screw tribe when
this tax was put on guano and you have
not gotten over one of your “tears,”
and it is not my business to enlighten
you who put this tax on guano; read up
a little like you advised other people to
do in your last latter. I am a farmer
and not a tramp, stove nor coffoe pot
patclier. This ends my controversy

HENDERSON & JORDAN,
t lie peop]e of Vienna didn’t
blame competing towns from try
ing to keep the railroad from com*
ing to Vienna by trying to carry it
in some other direction. Every
citizen and newspaper should work
for their best interests when it is
the best thing for the town. We
don’t believe that anybody will be
hurt much by having done so. The
News was very much in fuvor of
Vienna getting the railroad and we
do not blame Editors i’ivins'and
McKinzie of Cordelc, for doing the
same for tbeir town since we have
had time to reflect over it. I-et
everybody pull for their respective
towns if they went, to be worthy
of the fitle of the ideal citizen.
