Joseph M. Terrell, candidate for
governor, has been gaining votes
in. Dooly county considerably for
the past few days.
The Cordele News has decided to
come out in the open and support
ji. M, Terrell for governor. You
are on the right side brother Mc
Kenzie and you will never have
cause to regret your stand in the
mutter.
Georgia, the people would have
money to throw at jay birds.
That if all the greater portion
of the cotton made in the south
had been manufactured into the
thousands of things needed by the
people, not only of this country
but foreign countries, we would be
the richest people on earth.
Suppose the thousands and tens
thousands of negroes and white
people in Georgia and elsewhere in
the south were at work instead of
loafing around eating and doing
nothing, would’nt the country fair
ly roll in wealth ?
We could suppose a column ar
ticle along this line. Is it any
wonder that as a people we have
any money at all.—Atnericus Her
ald.
The above has been our-ldeu of
the situation and the cause of the
cry of “hard times” that was heard
from the lips of countless millions
a few years ago, when the Peoples
par;y was at its best. When the
farmers raises a sufficiency of the
things he now has to buy there
will be good times in store for them.
No political party in the world
will ever raise the necessaries of
life lor its people or cause them to
receive a better price for produce.
The law of supply and demand is
the paramount controller of prices.
What the people of the South need
is to make a larger supply of the
above articles.

the gubernatorial race neurs
the end we feel prouder day by day
our stand for Terrell for governor.
During the campaign thus far he
Inis proved himself to be by far a
irore conservative and abler man
than hisopporifent Mr, Guerry.
The Macon Telegraph says the Bruns
wick & Birmingham railroad has been
heard from again. It has bought the
Offernian and. Western road, which runs
from Offerman, in Pierce county, about
thirty miles west to Nichols, in Coffee
county, meeting the Atlantic & Bir
mingham, now being constructed from
Wpycross to Birmingham. By com
pleting a short link between Bruns
wick and Offerman, the' B. & B. gets
about sixty miles out from Brunswick,
and also gives the. Atlantio & Birming
ham a connection from Nichols, where
die two roads meot, to Brunswick.
Should the A.4B. arrange with the B.
,4c B. to use i is track from Nichols to
Brunswick, it will be easy to see how it
will have a route from Birmingham to
the s- a. The B & B is trying to buy
the Ottilia and Irwinville road in Irwin
county, runningeight miles from Ocilla
west to Irwinville. By using tho A. &
B. track from Nichols to Douglas, and
building a twenty five connection link
between Douglas and Ocilla, the B & B
gets about 25 miles father, giving it a
1 tne from Brunswick to Irwinville. The
B. & B. president says he will be operat
ing 150 miles of track by September
next, and tbo'A.&B. people nre rushing
things, too, so it’s a toss up to know
which road will get to Birmingham first
Philadelphia Times. They, fresh
from the study of church history,
were laughing together over the
old scholastic question;
‘How many angels are supported
on the point of a needle?”
They were surprised when Dr.
Talmage turned to them and said:
“Well how many do you think?”
As no one answered he went on,
with decision :
“Well I’ll tell you—five.”
And he justified his answer with
the following story.
One very stormy night be was
coming home Into, and noticed a
light in n window of 9 room where
he knew a poor woman lived
whose husband was at sea. He
wondered what kept her up so late
and he went to see. He found her
hard at work sewing by her lump,
while her five rosy children were
sound asleep beside tier.
“There.” said Dr. Tulmnge,
“was a needle supporting five an-
Reis.’.’
Mr. Editor: My friend Smith,
who runs the Vienna Progress, has
at last decided to fall off the fence.
He never does decide to fall unless
be is invited. I see he is coming
with a pitchfork in bis band. “Get
out of the way you little Terrell out
laws, ,1 have by my side B M Bow
en, G. A. Ballenger, J. G. Jones,
Georgia Cracker and Georgia Citi
zen, and they are the boys that are
going to let the cat out and expose
Terrell and his friends. You sit
study in the boat Mr. Guerry, we
will look after your interest. We
are the boys who expect to enlighten
the farmers of Georgia as to how
to vote.” How is it that you gen
tlemen have so much sympathy for
jthe poor-farming class? You say
“wake up brother farmers.” You
know nothing but blow, bluff und
bluster. Listen at we Guerry boys
and we will give you facts!
My friend Smith defies anyone to
come out in the open, especially the
man that signed “Citizen.” lad-
vise you to prepare and get behind
the above names. You can’t run a
newspaper unless you are enraged.
You now have the opportunity to
muke your paper a hot number tor
at least'one month—and then it will
die a natural death with Guerry
and all his club, after June 5th.
Mr. Edtitor what about the John
Henry Peavy case and his banging
that, worries the editor of the Prog
ress so much ? Let the poor negro-
rest, He told the guards before he
came out of his cell that he had
nothing to say only what he had
previously said. I suppose Mr.
Smith can get u copy of nis state
ment. He made two to my knowl
edge. Then he seems to be out ot
sorts about the negro not hang
ing long enough. Well, .three
physicians pronounced him dead.
The whole trouble about it all
seems to be about Sheriff changing
the legal advertising to the News,
which he had a perfect right to do
under the law.
Sheriff Sheppard stands well in
Dooly county. He and Mr, Rob
erts ran in this county a few years
ago against three good men and de
feated them by over 300 votes. He
ran two years ago and defeated a
polished gentleman by over 1400
votes. 'This shows how Sheriff
Sheppard stands. I huve been
voting for old “Shep” every time
and I have never voted for a better
man. The Judge of the Superior
court says that Sheppard is one of
the best Sheriffs in all his circuit.
Terrell is getting along alright
and gaining votes by the way he is i
conducting his campaign.
