Vote for Joe Terrell for gover-
qrnor. He is the best man in the
race.
The Sentinel will not reflect upon
•any county candidate for office—
tliey are all good men.—Cordele
Sentinel: The same way with the
News, brother Bivins.
It is almost a certain sign that
the candidate who circulates or
whose ftiends do so for him is like
ijnto a drowning man catching at
straws.
Dooly county could have a good
fair this fall and that without gam*
bling tricks and side shows. Void
qf these of fair properly conducted
would prove beneficial.
If you want to elect any certain
qnndidntc to county office, start a
Ijeon him.—Cordele Sentinel. Yes
and wc believe the truth in the
above statement will be curried into
l;fleet on June 5th.
The Cordele News has decided
to comp out in the open ami sup
port Joe Terrell for governor. You
are on the right side, Biother Mc
Kenzie, and you will never have
cause to regret your stand in the
matter.—Vienna News,. Yes, we
decided to support Terrelil, rail
road or no railroad. We “get to
gether" qnce in a while, don’t we?
Out." The writer or writers there
of might have added that a lie will
out and rebound upon the perpe
trators. It seems that tne Knights
of Fidelity, un insurance order, on
the 20th, of last March, issued
an invitation to its members to at
tend a '‘smoker’’ at its lodge rooms
in Macon, and that the object of the
meeting was to aid in u movement
to induce Congress to remove the
war tax on whiskey und beer. Mr
Terrell’s name nor candidacy was
not even mentioned, although this
lying circular suys that he was “un
doubtedly endorsed.”
It says further, that the place was
n “noted dive over a barroom where
drinking and gambling is carried
on eveiy Sunday,” where in fact,
the place of meeting was a lodge
room where several organizations
hold their meetings, and no bar
room was either beneath it or con
nected with it.
The slanderers who got up *and
circulated this cheap and low-flung J
dqdger took good pains not to cir
culate any of them in Macon where
they knew the lye would be prompt
ly detected, but sent them away off
into prohibition counties.
How any fair minded, unpreju
diced man can vote for a candidate
ibut endorses such tricks is past our
comprehension. As a supporter
of Mr. Terrell, we hope.that every
voter in Georgia .vill see and read
this miserable thing, and if it don’t
make a Terrell voter we are deceiv
ed in the munJ.ood of Georgia.—
Cordele Daily News.
The supporters of Mi. Guerry are
hard up for campaign literature
when such methods as above are
adopted to further his interests. If
Mr^Yeyrell's chances of election
rested on such methods as that he
would have td look to some one
else to issue them. Our influence
would be found uguinst such hrst
und last.
The circular referred to will un
doubtedly lose Mr. Guerry several
votes in Dooly county, us our peo
ple are against such tricks. Mark
our prediction.
| At the beginning of the guber-
| natorial campaign the News came
| Out in the open for J. M. Terrell
for governor, with the claims of
thq, supporters of Mr. Gnerry that
lie would carry Dooly county star
ing us in the face. Our iaith to
the contrary has been increased
every week and we now believe
that Mr. Terrell, will receive a
handsome mujority in Dooly county

THE LAW DECIDED.
Much has been said about Mr.
Terrell having decided or instruct
ing the comptroller general to have
the tax receivers in each county to
require the farmers to return for
taxation all fertilizers held by them
on, March 25th of-each year. 1 \In
the first place we will say that this
is true. Mr. Terrell, as attorney
general in performing his duties as
such,- did so according to the con
stitution of the state, which shows
no partiality to any class ot prop
erty except that which is specified
•n the foregoing decision of the
supreme court in a case carried up
from Laurens county to test the
constitutionality of the law and
wbic.h was affirmed by the Court
that it was included under the term
property.
Mr..Terrell was only performing
his duty and his decision or instruc
tions in the matter were not given
to do the farmer any injustice or in
favor of utiy class of property. The
decision is as follows :
TAXATION—EXEMPTIONS—FERTILIZERS.
“1. Under the constitution of this
state all private property, except places
of religious worship or burial, institu
tions of purely public charity, all
buildings used as acollege,incorporated
academy or seminary of learning, prop
erty *of public libraries and certain
literary associations, books, philosophi
cal apparatus, paintings and statuary
of a company kept in a public hnll, is
required to be taxed; and oven the
property above enumerated is subject
to be taxed when the same is used for
purposes of private or corporate profit
or income.
, “2. It fullows that commercial ferti
lizers, owned and held by one on March
15,1001, being property which is not
exempt, was subject to be taxed, not
withstanding it was the purpose of the
owner to apply the samo to his land,
which was also to be taxed.’’
Since the above decision Repre
sentative Steed, of Taylor county,
introduced and had a bill passed ut
the lust session of the legislature
repealing the law of taxing fertili
zers when the land upon which the
same is to be used bus been properly
returned for tuxiition. See page 65
ot the acts of Georgia, 1901.

From reading the speecr. of J.
M. Terrell, which was delivered
at Forsyth hist Saturday, it would
6eem that he is everything else’ but
alraid to take a bold stand for and
against the issues in the present
gubernatorial campaign. The fact
that a candidate does not pay
scarcely any attention to the attacks
made upon him personally or other
wise by his opponent is not u sure
sign ihnt he is afraid to do so. Nol
Mr. Terrell is not that. Kind of a
man and the stairip.oi disapproval
will rest upon such a candidates
and methods referred to above on
June 5th. -
