WRITES ABOUT A CARNIVAL.
Published WEDNESDAYS and SATURDAYS.
'PHONE No. ii.
WEDNESDAY, JUNE 18th., I«u2.
Col. S. R. Fields and Mr. J. S.
Pate, were elected Representatives
from Dooly county last week. Two
mighty good men, and the “State
of Dooly" will be in safe hands,—
Rochelle New Era.
Millard Lee was put on trial in
Atlanta Monday morning for the
murder of Miss Lilia May Suttles,
three weeks ago in a church at Ben
Hill, just as the congregation was
leaving. The defense have entered
u special plea of insanity.
Because she wrote tin article in a
local paper criticizing the adminis-
nation policy in the Philippines,
Miss Rebecca Taylor, a clerk in the
war department has been dismissed
from the service of that department.
Free speech must stay on the shelf
if you want to hold a job under
Roosevelt.
The news is now being chronicled
over the country that Ex-Governor
General Leonard Wood, of Cuba,
was too extravagant with funds
under hit direction, while in Cuba,
uud that he used $25,000 to keep
General Gomez from running for
president of that republic, simply
to satisfy tbe sugar trust. His
recotd will no doubt go through
with the usual curetul investigation
Editor News: You wrote an
article some time ago agitating a
eftunty fair for Dooly county. A
fair would be a costly thing to start
with. In the event the fair should
ever get started it would be worth
more than anything else in that line
for Dooly county, and would help
to lift up the standard of farming.
I suggest thnt-as it is a little late
for a fair, that the people come
together and have a nice cartiinal
this fall and then look torward to a
county fair nex: yeur. I will make
two propositions, ns we have five
incorporated towns in the county.
Nominate two young ladies from
each town and two lrom that neigh
borhood, and the young ladies re
ceiving the highest vote to have the
carnival at that place. This will
give each town a fair showing.
Second,- let each town subscribe
money and the one- that subscribes
the largest amount, have the carni
val. I merely offer these sugges
tions to see if some one will take
hold and improve on them and
secure the carnival.
O. B. Perry.
Editor J. W. Bivins of the Cor-
dele Sentinel has been selected by
President Coleman, of the Georgia
Weekly Piess association, to rend
a paper before that body at the
annual convention which meets at
Quitman, July 15-16 His subject
will be "Whut and How we Can
do to Educate the White Children
of Georgia, or in Anyway Improve
the Public School System in this
State. This a broad and timely
subject and those who attend may
expect to receive some new ideas
from Editor Bivins along this line.
Terrible Explosion
A TWO-POLLAR BILL.
"A two-dollar bill came into the
hands of a relative of mine,” writes
a lady in Boston, “which speaks
volumes on the horrors of strong
drink or the traffic in it. There was
written in red ink on the back of
the following: ‘Wife, chidlren and
over $40,000 all gone. I alone am
responsible. All has gone down my
throat. When I was twenty-one I
had a fortune, I am not yet twen«
ty-five years old. I have killed my
beautiful wife, who died of u brok
en heart, have murdered my chil
dren with neglect. When this bill
is gone I do not know how I cau
get my next meal. This is my last
money. I shall die a drunken pau-
per.. If this bill comes into the
hands of any man who drinks, let
him take warning for himself from
my life’s ruin,”—Michigan Chris
tian Advocate.

“Our little daughter had an almost fa
tal attack of whooping cough and bron
chitis,” writes Mrs W K Havlland of Ar-
monq, N Y ‘ but when all other remedies
failed, we saved her life with Dr King’s
New Discovery. Our niece, who had
consumption in an advanced stage, also
used this wonderful medicine and to-day
she is perfectly well.” Desperate throat

While attending the Southern Baptist
Convention in New Orleans, I was badly
hurt by a fall down a flight of steps. I
used Dr. Tlchenor’s Antiseptic freely
and iound it the best remedy for cuts and
bruises I ever tried. It Is pleasant and
heals wounds without inflamation or
suppuration.
