in The Vienna. News.—Campbell
News. Thanks,
The Sentinel cannot say that it favors
‘••fairs’’and “stroetcavnivals” anymore,
for tho “fairs’’ are too expensive for
the good derived, and the usual run of
''street carnivals” has grown too rotten
und nbnoxiuus. If we could have in
Gordele for a day this fall, a farmers
display upon wagons, such as O. B,
.Terry displayed In Cordele, and a mer
Chants display likewise, with a good
band to furnish music am) a. “Big gun
speaker,” it would add mueh to the life
of the oity and county and go a long
way towards advertising our section.—
Cordelo Sentinel.
Brother Bivins evidently speaks
from experience in regurd to ‘‘street
carnivals,” and we agree with hint.
But a good county fair, free from
degrading and immoral side shows
and gamblers, held for the purpose
of allowing the farmers and mer
chants to display their products,
etc., with a small premium list,
would bo a paying advertisement
fpr our city and county. Tins is
the kind we propose io have, and
pearly two thirds of the capital
stock has been subset ibed in less
tliun a week's time.

ENVY.
Forsyth Chronicle:
Envy is a disease which feeds on
its own growth. It is its own des
tiny. Its prevtflence is its severest
condemnation. It is the one pain we
suffer, Itis the one weakness which
is too strong for all. If it were the
smallpox we would call in a physi.
cian und (nek up a red flag on the
house, but as it is envy we feel that
we are made that way and mistake
complacency for resignation as we
submit to it’s p3ngs.
As a matter of fact, there is
nothing of which we can afford to
bo envious. Every peach has a
pit—though we can't see it. Life
is> life, and God has no special
moulds. The King upon the throne
has more opportunities for bitter,
galling diappoiutments than the
peasant in the hut. Each are equal
ly the spirit of fate or the muster
of circumstances—as they may
choose. When you are tempted to
envy the fortune of others, bear it
in mind that from every hill top
there looms a valley—and that so
long as the heaitcun desire the lot
wr the possessions of others there
will always be others to envy. Envy
is the footless waste of princeless
happiness.
