Oscar Peacock of Eincrich, visited the family of Judge John H. Woodward this week. Mrs. J. M. Hunt of Cordele, is in the city on a visit to her mother, Mrs. M. S. Hamilton. K. R, Lewis and wife returned home Tuesday night from a week’s stay at Indian Springs. J. L. Taggart, R. II. Stovall and Miss Alice Clark went down to Coidele Wednesday afternoon. J. E. She will be gone several weeks. D. B. Thompson, wife and children and Mrs. G. L. Bush went to Macon Thursday on the excursion and visited the Orphan’s Home. Col. D. A. R. Crum and wife returned home yesterday morning from Lavilla, where they have been spending a few days with Mrs. W. N. McDonald. Miss Mamie Tillman returned to her home at Cordele Wednesday, after spending a few days here with Misses Mamie Sheppard and Howell Melton. M. E. Rushin special agent of the Mutual Benefit Life Insurance Co., spent Wednesday and Thursday out in the Third district and at Unadilla, writing life insurance. Mrs. H. T. Conner of Davisboro, ar rived in the city Tuesday night on a visit to her parents, Mr. and Mrs. B. D Bryan, 8r., who live a few miles North-West of this city. Col. G. W. Wooten, W. W. and Win- right Jordan, B, F. Forbes, Judge J. H. Woodward and P. A. Leonard were among those that went' to Macon on the excursion Thursday. J. D. Norris of this city, dosed a pro tracted meeting at New Hope church Thursday which had been in progress five days. The Excursion to Macon. The excursion to the Methodist Orphans Home at Macon over the G. S. & F. Thursday was largely attended. Ten per cent of the sale ot tickets, besides a great many contributions by the visitors was received by the Home as a result of the excursion. If there is any thing in this old world of ours that will appeal to the hearts and pocketbooks of men when every thing else imaginable fails—-it is the poor orphan boy or girl. These excursions, to this Home annually cannot but be productive of good, as it is then that the happy and seemingly contented men, women and children with parents are brought in touch with the unfor- unate. their circumstances, etc., and of course their hearts are there by made tender. The writer knows ot one particularly that was very much touched by a visit to this place last year and says that it is worth a great deal to anyone to make a visit there. An Easy Made Ten Dollars On Wednesday afternoon Mr. C. I. Bennett received a letter from Marshal C. j . Goodwin of Mar- shallvilie, offering a reward of $io for a negro named Ebbie Woliork, who had skipped out from his bondsman. The letter stated, that the negro would probably stop in Vienna to secure work on the new railroad. Mr. Bennett knew the negro, who happened to be in his shop when the letter was received, and after reading the letter Mr. Bennett carried the negro to jail, where he was held until Thursday when an officer came after him.
