Moved and carried that the City's mule be boarded by J. F. Waters at $11.00' per month. j Moved and carried that G. R. Math ews. the city marshal, be suspended for a term .of seven days for neglect of duty; said suspension to take effect on . July 23th, 1902 at noon. Moved and carried that T. A. Adkins, the city policeman, be suspended for a term of three days for neglect of duty; said suspension to take effect on July 29th, 1902 at'twelve o'clock.at night. Moved and carried that the Tax books be opened August 1st, 1903, for the city tax returns for the year 1902, and will close on September 1st, 1903. Moved and carried that the city council refund to K. R. Lewis three dollars for street tax for the year 1901, who was exempt by being an executive / committeeman for the city of Vienna. On last Sunday afternoon at 4 o'clock at the home of the bride near Dooltng, Miss Florence Wilkes was married to Mr. S. J, Adkins, of near Coney. Rev. J. M? Kelly of this city, in bis usual impressive manner, performed the ceremony that made theni husband and wife. I The bride was becomingly attired in a white organdy, with trim mings ot lace und ribbon, with hat to match, wbile the groom wore a handsome black suit. 1 Miss Wilkes, the bride* ia a beautiful und'highly accomplished young Indy, and is liked by all who know her. Mr, Adkins, thergroom, is a prominent young farther and is well known in the county. Immediately after the ceremony the bridal party left for the home of tlie groom’s brother, Mr. J. B. Adkins, where a most elegant and stylish reception was tendered the happy couple, a large number of relatives and friends being present. May happiness and prosperity attend this popular douple, is the wish of the News and their many friends. Mrs. Forehand Dead. On last Sunday between 19 and 1 o’clock, Mrs. Forehand, wife of J, jC. Forehand, passed away at her home a few miles west of Fine- hurst, after a lingering illness of three weeks. She w'as a good Christian woman, and a member of the Primitive Baptist church. She was well known in this city, having lived here several yeaasago. She was the only sister of Messrs Jno. B. and P. 6. McDonald of this city and leaves besides a large number of children hnda husband to mourn her death. Her remains were interred in the the John Allen Forehand grave yard Monday afternoon at 4 o'clock in the presence of a large crowd. Rev. Childs, a Primitive Baptist minister of Yutesville; officiated at the grave. The News extends condolence to the bereaved ones. NO ASSIGNMENT OF CASES THIS TERM And all Parties interested ¥111 Hare to Appear Flrst Day of Court ...j.. -■ • ; i A letter has been received in this city by Col.'D. A. R. Crum, sec retary of the Dooly County Bar association, from Judge Littlejohn, stating that there would be no assignment of ^ases for the Sep tember term of Dooly Superior court, and enclosing an order to that effect to be posted up In the court house. The letter in part, is as follows “There will be no assignment of cases for September term of Dooly Superior court. All civil cases will be in order for trial on first day of court.” The reason for this change is that there will not be sufficient business to demand an assignment of cases and lhe progress of the court will not be interfered with on account of not having enough cases for trial on any certain day. All parties having cases should remember this order and be on hand promptly the first day and remain in attendance until their cases have been disposed of in the regular manner. —- Death of Mr; Downing. Mr. J. N. Downing of Dakota, formerly of near Snow, died at his home there Sunday from an attack ot paralysis. He was well known in the countv and had many friends and relatives who regretted to learn of his death. He was a Mason and member ot Millwood Lodge at Unadilla. His remains were curried to Snow yesterday morning and buried with Masonic honors.' He leaves a wife and one child to mourn hit death. A Painful Accident. ‘ Monday afternoon Mrs. E. Me- Gough of Findlay, happened to a painful accident, While taking some clothes off the clothes line she fell und broke her leg. Dr. W. M. Haslam of Pinehurst, as sisted by W. D. Bullington of Findlay, a medical student, set the broken limb and she is getting along as well as could be expected. Rev. J. D. Norris is aiding in a meet ing at Liberty church near Findlay this week. Eleven had united with the church up to Monday night. Rev. J M. Kelley is having some very valuable improvements made upon his dwelling and lie will have a beauti ful and convenient home when com pleted. Prof. B, L. Mason opened a writing school at Pleasant Valley Monday on morning. It will be in session ten days. He hus just closed a school in this city and had a large class. Prof. J, B, Folds vjho has’becin teach ing a singing school at Liberty church, closed it last week and opened dp ode at Little Greek Monday. In a recent dlvoree suit the Wife made complaint that her husband's ’trousers did not fit him. The cause of'many divorce suits is that the husband’s trousers do not fit the wife. A negro standing on the 'street the other morning, was describing the good things he was going to have for dinner, When smother negro who was listening, shouted, “Hush, yob’ll make mb swal low my tongue-. ** / Our Mayor and oity council decided At their meeting Monday night that the marshalls had not used enough diligence in keeping a certain drove of pigs off the streets in compliance .with the stock law and consequently they were suspended for a few days. Last Wednesday, 8 o’olock p. m„ at the residence of the brides father Mr. Alfred Wilson, Mr. J. A.LewisandMrs. Myra Milner were happily married'in the presence of a few Mends, Rev." j. M. Walters performing the ceremony. May happiness attend them all their days. Mr. and Mrs. J. P. Heard, jr., had as their guests last Friday evening Misses Berta Morgan, Bertha Leonard and Jewel Jowell, and Messrs. C. D. MC- Cowen, W. H. Proctor and J. LLashley. The principal amusement was parlor pool which afforded much pleasure to those present. At 10:90o’clock refresh ments were served. Many thattks were paid the kind and hospitable hoyt and hostess by the guest* for tht excellent manner in which they were entertained. On Inst Sunday aftemqpn Buford Hamilton and several other young friends were playing “Jail” when Buford who was running fipm the close pur suing Sheriff, happened to the misfor tune to stump his big toe and fall down striking with his whole weight on his his left thumb, fracturing the bone. Medical aid was summoned at once and the broken finger set in posltidrt by bandages. Re is now oarrylng his left hand in a swing.
