J. D. Tippett a prominent planter
and merchant of Wilcox coiinty, was in
town on business Monday.
N. J. Grantham, a prominent planter
and merchant of Tippettvllle, was here
Saturday mingling with hip friends.
He has been in bad health for several
months, having suffered from a stroke
of paralysis in the spring that kept him
qnabie to go about any until about the
first of June.
Judge Zook Hardin passed through
the city Monday morning enroute to
his home at Pateville, from Kerns
where he had been on a visit to his son-
in-law, W. H. J. Carmack. He had
about cotton baskets in his wagon
which goes to show that he lias a large
cotton crop to gather.
M. L. Stanley of Quitman, arrived in
the city Friday afternoon on a visit to
the family of Col. Jno. F, Powell He
will attend the agricultural meeting at
Macon this week and will return home
Friday, accompanied by his wife
and son, who have been spending sever
al days here with her parents.
Miss Howell Melton will leave next
Sunday afternoon for Moultrie, whore
she goes to accept a position- in the
millinery store, of J. J. Battle. She
visited homefolks near Findlay Sun
day. Her millinary business here will
be in charge of Miss Bora Carnes. Miss

A Pleasant Event.
One of the many pleasant social
events of the season in Vienna was
the entertainment given by the
young men at the city park on last
Friday night. It was gotten up by
Messrs. W. T. McDonald and VV.
II. Proctor. J
A large crowd ot young people
was present and the time was spent
very pleasantly by playing amusing
games, conversation, music, etc.
Mr. and Mrs. K. R. Le wis, Mr.
and Mrs. J. P. Heard, jr., acted as
chaperones.
Refreshments were served, Con
sisting of cake, cream tnd soda
water.
