attended court here this weekend gave

Misses Minnie Morton of Lumpkin,
and Mamie Gray of Harlem, the two
newly elected assistant teachers in the
public school here are expected to ar
rive in the city to-day.
Miss Mamie Clark, an attractive
young lady of Americus, who has been
visiting her cousin, Miss Nina Davies,
returned home Thursday afternoon.
Rev. H. P. Jackson of Montezuma, a
former pastor of the Baptist church
here will fill the pulpit here Sunday.
Rev. Jackson is a good preacher and
our people ore no doubt glad of the
opportunity of hearing him again.
The Sheriff’s advertisements for this
month will appear in next Wednesday’s
issue, which will give them’four weeks,
the required number according to^law,
before the first Tuesday in October.

Mrs. Belle Patrick and daughter, Miss
Lillie, returned home Monday from
Byromville, where they have been v(sit
ing relatives. They were accompanied
down by Mr. P. Ck Patrick. Miss Lillie,
was taken sick immediately upon her
return and has been confined to her
room since.

Mr. J. P. Heard has been quite busy
this week and had to postpone his next
letter on his recent trip to the west
unto our Wednesday’s issue. This let

Information reached this office Thurs
day that Mr.. Horace Lane,a farmer
living in the Emerich community com
mitted suicide Monday by shooting
himself with a pistol. He died about
about 12 o’clock that night. He re
fused to allow any one to administer to
him. He leaves a wife and one child
to mourn his death. His remains were
buried at Snow cemetery Tuesday af
ternoon.

buried at the Wallace graveyard, in
the eastern part of the county, vis?
Green Barfield, Jim Lindsay, John Joi
ner, his brother, Dr. Joiner, Jdhn
Dozier and Ben McKinney. Strange aa
it may seem, it is said that all six of
them were related.
