Vienna Drug Co THIRTY THOUSAND DOLLAR CHINA SET Mr*. Roosevelt Has Ordered One Per the White House, Constating of l,3a6 Pieces. A complete new set of china hat been ordered by Mrs. Roosevelt for the White House to harmonize with its restored and renovated interior. It forms the state dinner service, and its various pieces are $,336 in number. It wilt cost $30,000, which, of course, the government pays. This dinner service is a national institution and monument of American domestic furniture. It was selected by Mrs. Roosevelt after a vast amount of thought and trouble, and its selection undoubN edly shows remarkable taste and intelligence. The set was made by the historic Wedge wood factory of England, und is of simple colonial design. The wisdom of this choice will bn seen when the architecture of the White House is considered and the character of the furniture at the time the government was founded, The dinner service is un important mutter in the White House. The lust was purchased in 1880, during the administration of President Hayes and for some time past hat been inadequate for state and other occasions. The last service was designed by Theodore R. Davis and Uustrated exclusively fauna und flora. It was manufactured by Huvilcnd hnd Co., at Limoges, France. The designs of this service ; were made in water color and al though in nearly every instance they were bold and striking, they were difficult to reproduce upon porcelain in hard mineral colors, and to successfully accomplish this it was necessary to invent new methods und have recourse to peculiar mechanical appliances. The service was made to be used particularly for state occasions, Through breakages and wear and tear it has become inadequate for use. Several months ago Mrs. Rooie* velt commissioned Charles M. Van Heusen, ot the Van Heusen, Chns, Co., of Albany, NJ."Y„ to visit the noted factories with the idea of submitting a collection of samples for Mrs. Roosevelt’s inspection, Seventy-eight different and exclus* ive designs were submitted. The service selected is simple colonial pattern in gold with the obverse or front ol the great seal of the United States enamelled in color. The coffee and tea cups are very simple in design and ,ure decorated in the 6ame manner as the plates. The design selected has been patented und copyrighted for the exclusive use of the White House. The executive designs will not be sold outside the White House under any consideration. For Sale For Next 15 Days The Ridenbour and Mrs. Kelly residences near the depot.
