Sheppard has returned from a very pleasant visit to Lloyd and Cordele where he went on last Monday. Miss Bertha Leonard returned home Thursday afternoon from a visit to rela - tlves at Albany and Americus. Miss Mamie Myers returned home Thursday from Macon, where she has been spending a few days with friends. Miss Lilia May McDonald will have as her guest next week. Miss Ruby Ross Popa a popular and Accomplished young lady of Monticello, Go. Mrs. W. V. Harvard and children re turned home Thursday night from Unadilla, where they have been on a pleasant visit to relatives. J. B. Walton and family have moved to town and are occupying the house ' recently vacated by B. A. Murray We welcome them to our city. The many friends of Judge D. L. Henderson are now busy congi atulating him upon his reappointment to the Judgeship of the City court. A. C. Bullington of Findlay was here yesterday. Col. Watts Powell visited Macon this week. Col. L. L. Weodward visited Cordele cm legal business yesterday. J, M. Hunt of Cordele, is the happy fathdr of a fine boy that arrived Wed nesday to make his home happier. Sam Gurr of West Point, who has beeu visiting has mother here for a few days, will leave Sunday for Americus, Mrs. Jim Fenn and children left for. their home at Dakota, yesterday after spending some time visiting relatives at Drayton. Broome, who has been connected with the News for some time^wepf down to Cordele Wednes day riight to work for Editor Bivins a few days on account of the illness of one of the latter’s printers. The material has been placed on the ground for the purpose of building an Episcopalian church on the vacant lot near the council chamber. The ediOc^, will be a frame one, and will be a valu able addition to our town. Rev. E. 8. Atkinson left Wednesday afternoon for Americus, to attend the State Baptist Convention. The time of meeting was changed at Rome last spring to the fall. This makes two sessions for tho convention this year in order to change the time of meeting. Owing to hie close position to the horse, the wound was not so serious as it might have been had he been standing at a greater distance. While very painful, tho accident is not necessarily serious as no bones were broken. i Manager 8mith and his excellent company took their departure from Vienna Thursday, for Americus, at which place they will make their next stop. While here with our people, the members of this organisation made many friends, and it was with regret that they had to leave. We bespeak for them a good patronage from the people of Americus, as they certainly, have an excellent company. C. B. Parker, presidi nt of the McRae Cotton Oil Mill spent a few hours here yesterday, the guest of Mr. Ed Howell. Mrs. Bennett returned to her home at Albany-yesteraay after spending a few day her the guest of her brother, L. R. Hobbs. The Bonnair Price Company present ed "Life In New York” to one of the largest houses that ever greeted an opera company in Vienna Wednesday night, Their play delt with life as it is in the great city of New York from the lowest gambling den to the mansion of a millionaire. It was well presented all the way through, and the crowd was kept .in a happy good mopd by the funny situations and the specialties, which completely captuated the audience. Quite a peouliar thing occurred at the home of Mr. T. A Adkins, Jr., one day this week. Mrs. Adkins noticed that one Of her bens had gotten some thing lodged in its craw, which was choking it to death by degrees. Tak ing a knife, Mrs. Adkins caught the chicken, made an incision in the skin of the craw and took therefrom «large ground pea. 8he threw the pea on the ground and an old rooster which was standing near watching the operation, gobbled it up and' swallowed it. He got it down however. The chicken is still olive and doing welL The Vienna Cotton Oil company have agreed with the city of Vienna to furnish electric lights for the purpose of lighting the town. This company is making preparations to build an elec tric lighting plant- for their own private use. and have contracted to aLo furnish the city. This will, indeed, be a crest improvement over the present system of lights, and the advent of electric lights will be hailed with pleasure by the people. While the present system is a very good one. yet it is inadequate for the needs of the town, and hence the determination upon the part of the city to have a better one.. A stranger remarked the other day on the up-to date and neat appearance of the business houses here, and said that tliey would compare favorably with those of the large cities. It i* certainly true that the business men of Vienna take a great deal of pride in their establishments and keep them looking spick and span at all times. And do you know that this is one cf the best ways to secure trade. Who wants to go into a dingy old hole, with cobwebs and dust all over the shelves and mildew covering the goods cover ing the goods?
