GEORGIA.
TALK OF THE TOWN.
Gathered by a News Han
In an Idle Moment.
The railroad gang are now placing the
tiallast on the grading Just opposite
town, preparatory to laying the ties
and rails,
A certain young lady of a near-by
city is said to have fainted the other
day when she discovered some seed
potatoes in her bath room that had
eyes.
Why should yienna not have a Can
ning Factory added to her growing list
of industries? Not a great amount of
capital is' required, and the returns
would be a source of much profit to the
town.
With a system of electric lights,
water works system and a new railroad
Vienna will soon be, taking an quite
citified airs. It is not many towns that
get such good things as these all to
gether.
We fairly warn our neighbor city of
Cordele to get a hustle on her or we
shall be leaving her out in the cold one
of these days very soon. The spirit of
progress has taken firtn possession of
us and nothing shall stand in the way
It is hard on a man to get out of the
penitentiary and then have his wife sue
him for a divorce on the ground of non
support. How the dickens can they
expect a man to support a wife and
nine children with a shackle on his
ankle and a six-foot guard standing
over him with a small Gatlin gun?
The people of Vienna appreciate
good show and will patronize it, so we
bespeak for the Holman Comedy Co
good house each night- Mr. Heste r
is making an efiort to give the people
some first-class amusements and we
feel sure that his efforts in this direc
tion will be heartily appreciated and
supiKirted by the people.
The major portion of the cotton crop
has, of course been ginned and baled
by this time and the farmers are look
ing forward to the good old happy days
of Christinas and Santa Claus. The
most of them have got some “chinks”
laid by for the event and the little ones
and old friends will be niade.happy by
remembrances (rom loved ones. Blessed
is the man who invented Santa Claus
One great blessing enjoyed by Vienna
is our arteasian water: Coming from
the depth it does, this water is bound
to be absolutely pure and wholesome.
There is nothing to a town’s advantage
more than good pure water. By it the
health and lives of the people are pro
tected. We believe that impure water
Is causing the death of nwre people,
especially in the larger cities, than
almost any other cause, Pure water
should be appreciated by a people, as it
is one of the greatest sources of health
and comfort to the them,
The general appreciate of the peo
ple of Che effort* being put forth by
the nMuiagementof the Vienna News to
give them a clean, newsy and readable
newspaper is heartily appreciated by
us, and we assure the people that we
ahall spare no pains nor expense in
continuing, ns we have in the past, to
give them the very best 1 upor it is
possible to get out. The News has a
Sold’and emission of its own to -fill, and
it shall be >its aim and constant effort
to fill it to the best of our ability. The
making of a good newspaper is not an
easy tusk, and one that means a great
deal of hasd work and constant appli
cation. 8a a word of encouragement
and appreciation, if nothing more, is ss
a balm to the poor editor’s soul, and is
remembered end cherished by him as
something almost sacred.

These chilly mornings make a fellow
have a longing In his heart for a cheer
ful fine, and the stoves sad stove-piper,
which have been hidden away in the
garret tor the summer season, have
been brought forth and polished up
preparatory to being fired op for the
chilly days of Old Father Winter. And
i cidentally, too. this is a time to make
a fellow forget all he ever learned at
Sunday school, for tiie stove-pipe has
got to be put up, you know, and, of
course, no two “Jints” will fit into
each ether, besides being full of soot.
The job is undertaken before br akfust
with the intention of having it com
pleted by the time the coffee is Bettled
but in all probability you will have to
lose a half day or more from work, and
then, perhaps, have to buy a new pipe
after all.
