His Will and nine.
I said, “I will walk in the sunlight.”
Christ said, “No, in the shade.”
I said,’ There is danger there, dear Lord,
And my soul is sore dismayed.”
He smiled as he sweetly answered,
‘Thou shalt fear no evil thing;
The darkness that apalls the •
Is the shadow of my wing.”
I readied my hand fpr a flower,
But he gently drew it in;
We will gathf r souls instead,” He said
“From thecountless fields of sin.” •
“Thou wilt go with me then, Lord,”
I cried, ••
“Through the regions florae and
wild?”
“Thou shalt walk by faith, my child.”
I clung in fear to his pierced hands,
As he tamed to go away;
And my eyes were blind with' falling
tears,
As in love I heard Him say:
“I will send to thee the Comforter,
He unto whom is given #. .
The mission to guard thy footsteps here
And 1 will watch in Heaven.”

SOME THOUGHTS
ABOUT CHRISTMAS
Mrs. Morris Tells of a Conversation She
Had With a Little Girl About
Santa Clans.
MR. EDITOR:
Now that the Christmas festivities
approach, and soon will be heard the
small boy with the whistle, or the boy
with the small whistle, I do not know
juBt how that is, and that most mys
terious personage Santa Clous, will be
stalking abroad over the land, I am
reminded of a remark a little girl once
made to me. We were inmates of the
same house for the time, and she was
the only child in the house. A fellow
feeling of loneliness brought us to
gether, and we soon became acquaint
ed.
She was eight years of age, partly
German by berth, slender of form,
with a wealth of flaxen hair, which fell
below her waist, and the prettiest blue
eyes—they made me think of the gen
tian. Moreover, she had three tiny
wrinkles which came straight down
over her nose and teemed to be con
tinually snylng: “We were bofrn of
tribulation; we were bom of tribula
tion.” Not altogether, however.
There are children and children, and
Lottie was of the class we suffer the
second kind to belong. Often she grew
quite at a loss how to amuse herself,
and would frequently resort to my
room. One day I told her to ask her
mothqr if she might come'and sit with
me for fifteen minutes each night after
supper. She was delighted.
The first evening she appeared she
was unusually dignified. She was an
invited guest, and she felt it. After
engaging her for a few moments in
conversation about childish things, I
asked: “Lottie, do you love God?"
'Clicking her little heels over her
chair, and carefully adjusting her skirt
over her lap, she replied with much
deliberation: "Mrs, N— I don’t know
whether there is a God or not."
Now, I had not thought of Lottie in
the guise of a skeptic, and was much
astonished at her reply. “Why child,”-
I exclaimed, “lias no one ever told you
of God?” “Oh yes,” she answered,
clutching the back qf the chair with
rigid fingers, “but, Mrs. N— they fool
ed me abopt Santa Glaus, and they
may be fooling me about God.”
There, no wonder the little wrinkles
seemed to ery out “tribulation, tribu
lation.” She had had her earthly di
vinity swept away, and how could she
be sure ot her heavenly one? Is there
not mucli food for thought in her reply.
I found her amenable to argument,
however, and in the evenings which
followed she seemed to accept with
simple childish faith the belief that
God is however Santa Claus is not. '
On asking her what sort of a place
she thought Heaven was, she curled
her tiny hand upward and said: “I
think it is a nice, soft place”
Dear little one, I hope she will reach
there. Siie hod not thp teaching of
kind parents. The last I saw of her
she was attending Sunday school and
she assured me that she was still be
lieving in God. I have often wondered
if any other child looks at it in the
same way.

In Memoriam.

My mother—I loved her and I tried
to be true, and shall ever hold her in
sweet remembrance as one who loved
me more than all this world, but I
guess she had spent her days and filled
her mission on earth and God took her
soul tp rest.
Annie—my wife, nw bbsom friend,
my ohildren’s mama; I loved her, j
cherished her and tried to comfort her
and done all I could to save her. Why*
oh why could she not be spared? God
knowetn best; His will be done. We
humbly bow in humble submission, and
thank him for his goodness and meroy
shown us, and now beseech him to
spare us for His glory. (
We feel that our loss which is only
temporary, is theirs and Heaven’s
eternal gain. We shall strive to meet
them up yonder, where there is no
sickness or sorrow and ask the prayers
of all Christian people for God to own
and bless our motherless boys and ta
kelp me be good, and teach me how to .
direct their footsteps. The responsU

Warning to Others: My life has been
full of errors; both of omission and
commission to God and man. I can
now think of each harsh word spoken,
the opportunities neglected. eto„ to

the past is gone; what is done or said
is sealed. While they forgave me and
I believe God has forgiven me, yet they

Husbands, be thoughtful, be good and
kind to your wives now, today, whilq
she lives. Boys, girls, remember mama
is your best friend. Help her, love her
and comfort her; too late alter death.

A SENSIBLE SUOQESTION.
• A Suggestion hus been made to
the legislature by E. C. Branson,
of the State Normal College at
Athens, as to the manner of rail
ing more revenue for tho stdtfl
without raising a higher tax that
should be well considered.
There are many forms of gain*
ful occupation in Georgia that aro
paying no taxes to the utote at
present. Many ot these have little
to tax in the way of property, but
they are making money abundant*
iy out of the privilege of doing
business in Georgia. Make them
pay a privilege tax to the state,
They can afford it. Other states
do it and receive thousands into
their treasuries where Georgia re
ceives nothing. Gentlemen of the
legislature, this plan fhould re- -
